I am in over my head!!!! I am trying to create this wedding album: http://www.mpix.com/Product.aspx/customhardcoverbooks

My wedding photographer sold us the "hi-res" files as part of our package. Now I am wondering if my files are high enough resolution to do what I want to do with them.

The book is 10"x10" and I wanted to use one of my images as the wraparound cover for the book so it has to be 10"x20." Also, I wanted to use my other images as backgrounds for the various layouts throughout the book (also, 10x20). Is this even possible with my files or is the resolution too low?

The dimensions of my photos say 4368x2912, and it also says 240dpi. How big can I print it before it looks grainy or pixelated?

They have other size options for the books but I really wanted 10x10!

I''m so glad you asked this! I have no idea, but since our files are the same resolution it would be great to know. I hope someone answers. Also, you must tell me how you like mpix once you''ve finished everything because I am thinking of ordering from them as well!

4368x2912 is plenty to do what you want.

It is 12.8MP from a canon 5D I have printed 8mp images to 20x30 inches without issue.
Mpix is a good outfit.

Wishful! I think mpix is going to be great. It''s where many pro-photographers order their books and prints. I will definitely let you know how it goes. I''ll probably post a link to my album when it''s finished for opinions. I''m totally trying to rip-off Joseph''s awesome albums! Oh and did he send you an email for the holidays too? I thought that was nice.

Thanks Storm! He used the canon EOS 5D as well.

A couple more questions though:
1. In PS if you goto view>print size, if I see any blurriness/pixelation that will be what the print will look like?

2. If I goto Image>Image Size, and it says Width 18.2" and Height 12.33" will it be a problem to stretch it onto a 10x20 canvas?

Thanks also for the

on Mpix is seems like a really good site. I''ve ordered christmas cards through them, although they weren''t photo they were something I made on Indesign with stock art, and I was pleased with the quality.

I heartily recommend Mpix.

I shot a friend''s wedding and did proofs from there. I''d really recommend the lustre finish - it''s a bit more pricey, but the results are top-shelf.

PS print size has nothing to do with real world printing anymore, modern RIP works wonders.
You will need to crop to a fixed 1x2 ratio if you want a full spread image without borders. (you may need to further split it into 2 1x1 ratio images depending on how the creation software is set up.
Basically you crop it to the right ratio and save it as a level 10 or 12 jpg and your good to go.
If you are ok with borders change the canvas to 5824 x 2912 (2x1) centering the image.
That will give you full top to bottom coverage with side borders.

Perfect. Thanks Storm!

Hi Mia!

Yes, he did send us a holiday email. He is very sweet! I can''t wait to see what your album results look like. I got a coupon for a free mini photo book from Kodak that should come in the mail any day, but we''ve held out on our official album for now.

I also have noooo idea what strm''s posts mean... I think my album will have to be a lot less fancy than yours!

Wishful, if you want to use the mpix software to make an album, it''s really easy and you won''t even need to use photoshop. I am just going to use it a little to copy some of the layouts Joseph has in his books. But if you click the link above, you can download the software and play around with it.

There are other places to make a book too, as you said Kodak, then there''s shutterfly, picaboo and more. But what I like about Mpix is that there isn''t a logo on the product,it looks more professional. I think the book I am making is $40-$50, not bad.

I totally agree about them looking more professional! I will probably keep it pretty simple so I don''t mess it up, though. Or perhaps I''ll just fool around with it for awhile before making the real deal and get some practice. To be honest I think it is going to take me awhile to get my emotions together to even make the book. I am thinking of not even doing it until everything gets all worked out. What with the impending forcible divorces they''re debating and all the other issues, none of which will be addressed for months, I just don''t have energy to put into a book that is going to end up depressing us instead of making us happy. I''m not sure I''m at that stage yet.

Sorry- enough about me!

I can''t wait to see how your book comes out! Your pictures are so gorgeous. I re-visited them the other day when I was thinking about how much I love how ours come out and how good Joseph is at what he does!

Oh wishful I totally understand. I know it''s so easy for me to say, but try and think of that day as a special time for you and wifey that no one can ever take away. You did it! You got married! But yeah I get it, if it''s too painful now put it aside for a better time.

Yes Joseph was an awesome photographer! I actually haven''t looked at my pics in a while. I guess after a while the novelty wears off and it''s just like no big deal anymore. But going through them for the book has gotten me all excited about them, the day, my hubby, everything! It''s really nice to relive all the moments.

Thanks Mia, you're so sweet. It feels pretty bad some days, and other days I can't stop looking at them. I hate feeling like I'm letting others ruin my day/life/parade but it's true because they are ruining a huge part of it for us. I do have to remember to order a few more extra licenses in case something were to happen to the one we already have. Who knows, perhaps they could fetch a price on ebay... I hear they don't make them the way they used to...

There's something very weird about knowing that I couldn't do today what we did in Oct. I'm glad I won't be back in SF for a good long while- THAT would be too much to handle for sure.

I honestly thought the novelty would wear off about the pictures, but I swear I look at them nearly every day! Sometimes it's not for the best and it's emotional and feels yucky, but mostly it just makes me happy. I know S looks at them a lot also. We really do love them. I do hope it all turns out well because I want a proper album and I think it would be a good project to distract me from everything going on!

Wishful I can''t even tell you how sad I am about all of this. You shouldn''t have to feel this way about your wedding.

I did finish my book (tentatively) and posted it in BWW if you want to see!
