Hello everyone,

Thanks to this forum, I purchased a wonderful solitaire natural 0.5 ct diamond necklace last year from Whiteflash. Now, I am interested in natural diamond studs and I plan to purchase them from Whiteflash as well. I am based in Spain and need to pay 21% VAT for any Whiteflash purchase.

I’m trying to figure out what diamond size would be best for me. Initially, I wanted 2 ct (1 ct each diamond) round cut, but after reviewing the prices, I realized I don’t have enough of a budget to pay more than 10k EUR. However, I do have around 3-5k for 1 ct (0.5 ct each diamond) now. I’m considering A Cut Above, I, VS2.

The most important thing for me is to purchase high-quality, sparkling diamonds that I can later pass down to my daughter. I’ve heard that diamonds under 1 ct don’t hold as much value as 1 ct diamonds, so I’m wondering whether I should wait and save up for 2 ct studs or if 1 ct would still be a good option. Also, I’ve never had a 1 ct diamond; would I notice a significant difference between 1 ct (0.5 ct each diamond) and 2 ct (1 ft each diamond) in my ears?

Perhaps I could save some money by adjusting the diamond’s quality (inclusions, fluorescence, and color), but how would that affect the sparkle, which is the most important factor for me and diamond value? Would it be very noticeable if I chose a VG cut instead of an A Cut Above?

What would your suggestions be?

Thank you in advance!

Personally, I would do the following:

1. Check WF for their upgrade policy to establish if they include the sizes of the studs you are considering.
2. Get the largest studs you can now based on your mind-clean requirements. Their ACA I/VS2 for earrings is a good compromise to bump up the carat size.
3. Consider getting a pair of compatible diamond earring jackets at a later date to add bling to the studs without spending another fortune. I personally LOVE earring jackets for this reason.
4. With getting a pair of diamond earring jackets at a later date in mind, choose a stud setting that is compatible with their jackets, and WF can advise you on that.
5. Check out their earring jackets, this is the ones I could find with ease via Google, however, they had different ones in the past and can custom-make a pair to suit.

WF Earring Jackets

Good luck!

Edited to add my recommendation to source earring jackets from WF is because there had been a number of posts relating to aftermarket jackets from different vendors not being compatible with the studs.

DK :))

There are a couple of pairs of nice size "I"s available also...

To upgrade you would need to spend 1.5 times the cost of the stones (double check to be sure). If you wanted to move
up to 2 ctw you would be spending over that requirement anyway so not sure if its an issue.

You've got the "High quality" requirement covered by going with ACAs.

I would not choose a "Very Good" cut over Excellent/Ideal.

Moving down in color does not affect the sparkle in an ACA.

Unless you pick a cloudy stone (ACAs are vetted for this), sparkle will not be affected.

Fluroscence - These recommended stones are "None" but I would ask WF to make sure the stones are reflecting
light the same under different lighting conditions. (FYI...None can be subjective)

Yes, there is a big difference between 1 ctw earrings and 2 ctw earrings on ears.

I dont know about holding the value of 1 ctw vs 2 ctw but it would make sense. If you're not planning on selling
the stones then ??? The upgrade policy helps you out here. You can move up to 2+ ctw in the future. Not sure
how hard/easy that is to do from the EU.

Good luck! Studs are definitely classics and heirlooms when nicely cut!

I just purchased 2.4 ctwt from Rare Carat with the specs I wanted for a reasonable price.
