Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and found it quite useful. I am about to purchase a 1.56 Carat G color VS1 diamond this coming Monday and I recently discovered the HCA tool. Now I'm a little worried as the proportions came back with a 3.3 HCA Score. Should I pass on the diamond?

PROPORTIONS

Depth 62.2 %
Table 55 %
Crown Angle 34.5°
Crown Height 15.5%
Pavilion Angle 41.2°
Pavilion Depth 43.5%
Star Length 55%
Lower Half 80%
Girdle Thin to Medium, Faceted, 3.0%
Culet None

I've attached the GIA Certificate in case it will help with any other considerations.

Thanks for all your help. It's costing me $13,800 out the door.

Yes, you should definitely pass. The pavilion angle is too high at 41.2 and also doesn't compliment the 34.5 crown angle. Round diamonds are a dime a dozen so don't settle. Stick to GIA triple excellent/AGS 000 stones and use these parameters for ideal cuts and weed out stones that score over 2.
Table: 54-58
Depth: 60-62.3
Crown angle: 34-35 (sometimes 35.5 if pavilion angle is 40.6)
Pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41 if crown angle is close to 34)

What's your budget and what are your desired specs?
