Hi! I've been stalking without an account for a while but decided to join today! Anyways, I am having a 5 stone 1.25ctw .25 each (F/ideal cut/VS2). Setting is a U shape prong.

So first question- I am a size 4 knuckle but 3.5/3.75 below the knuckle. So spinning will
be an issue. Can anyone with those stats share a pic of their ring? I've stalked all of the 5 stone ring threads and haven't seen any with those stats. I wanted to do 1.5ctw but felt that would be too big and not comfortable. I'm looking for a right hand ring just FYI.

Next question- I'm debating on putting in 2 surprise diamonds in a bezel setting on the sides right where the diamonds end. I'll attach a photo from someone from this thread. Anyways, is this unnecessary? Will it even be noticeable? Anyone have this "surprise" diamond have an opinion??

Thank you!!!

Hi and welcome! Who is making your ring? Also, I know that there will be conflicting opinions on this, but I think that 1.25ct will be large on your delicate finger. I wear a 5.25 and 1.25 was just perfect on me when I tried 5 stone bands. If you are certain that is the size you want, I would not do U-prong because that will rub uncomfortably between your fingers. I would do a shared prong style and set the stone as low as possible, so that they "curve" nicely around your finger. I would seriously consider going down to 1ct at well. 5 x 20pt each will cover your tiny size 3.75 in a glory. Also, no to surprise stones, you really don't have that much finger real estate to work with..

Hi! Thank you! The ring is being made by a jeweler on etsy. She's wonderful so no worries there! I was originally going to do 15pt and then 20pt and now 25pt. I've gotten greedy!! I have long fingers so I was worried it would look smaller but obviously it'll be crazy finger spread. I hadn't heard that u-prong were uncomfortable and I stressed that I want them lower and wrapped well around the finger. Now I'm a little worried about the U prong setting. Thanks again for you opinion!

1.25ct in a u-prong will definitely touch your neighboring fingers, as the u-prong will sit higher than a shared prong. A size 3.5 has a circumference of 45.2mm, 0.25pt diamonds have a diameter of appx 4mm each = 20mm total..that is pretty close to half eternity. I would want that ring set as low as possible and very curved.

low set, curved shared prong setting:

Have you tried any 5 stone bands prior to ordering?

Ah yes now I see the major difference. She also said the diamonds will have a 4.1-4.2mm so is that even bigger?! Ugh...now I'm nervous. She's already started the ring but does accept returns. Maybe I'll message her and ask if I can have it switched to the shared prong setting? I'm worried now. I loved the look of the U prong which is why I went with it

Here are some examples of similar rings she's done. These seem to wrap well to me?

I would contact her and switch the setting. I would have her do a shared prong, scalloped look (but without having the prongs pinched in too close together) and also have her remove the prongs at the end stones for added comfort. Something similar to this: http://www.memoire.com/shop/mip9-0100mpl/#sthash.ifBhCdFV.dpbs

Does she provide CAD images?

I've emailed her pics of the ring you sent me. I'll let you know what she says. So far no CAD images because we started the whole process yesterday. Since she's a small shop she gets things done very quickly so I have no idea where she is in the process. Thanks again!

Great! Post the CAD image if/when she provides it!

I have a 7 stone 1.4ctw u-prong and it is not uncomfortable at all. I dont think it sets that high off my finger either...probably higher than the shared
prong setting above but still not high. I would consider the bezeled side stones personal preference. You may not see them when looking straight
down on your ring because they might be between your fingers but if you think it completes the ring then thats up to you. You dont see the gallery
of an ering very often but that doesnt stop people from adding diamonds and pretty metal work to finish it off so that when you do see it it looks lovely.

Thanks for sharing!! This makes me feel better. I absolutely get where SimoneDi is coming from and agree but I also really do like the U prong. Waiting for CADs so I can see how it'll look with my size stones. And I agree- the side stones would be sweet. Thanks again!!

tyty333, as far as I recall (and correct me if I am wrong), your ring size is a size 7. OP is at 3.5/3.75! I mean, the best option will be if OP can try some rings locally. I would have definitely done that 1st to estimate which ctw works best. I know that 1.25ctw covered perfectly my 5.25/5.5 finger so I would be a bit skeptical having the same ctw in a u-prong setting on size 3.5.

I'd agree with Simone.
IMO.. The OP's finger (3.75) is too small for the ring. The two end stones will spill over to the side of her finger.
Here's my wife's 1.27ct 5 stone share prong ring on her 4.75 finger.1.15ct.JPG

Hi! Your wife's ring is gorgeous. Thankfully my right hand finger (where I'll be wearing mainly) is pretty close to a 4. Where's my ring finger is the super small one and wanted to switch between those two fingers. But thanks for sharing your opinion

I think the point is that OP, you are trying to put a lot of carat weight on a small finger. No matter what setting you choose it needs to set
low to the finger (the culet of the stone always has to clear your finger no matter the setting). The uncomfortable -ness comes from stones being
between your fingers (no matter the setting). I think you should have her do a wax so you can try it on and get a feel for it and make changes. The
one u prong you posted looks relatively low (but what size stones are those)?

The ones above are both .20 each so mine shouldn't be much larger. They're relatively low settings. The top photo is the ring she is making me in a size 5 with 20 pointers. The seller accepts returns and I should have it in about a week. So worst case scenario I can return and try a different setting. We just moved to a new state so I don't have my wonderful jeweler any longer so therefore I went looking online.

Okay! She overnighted me the ring and it's perfect. So comfy and fits like a dream. Thanks again for everyones help and opinions!!
