Hello everyone,

Finally I decided to purchase a best diamond within 20k. G and VS2 are the bottomline to me. So I found these two after sometime's research, but just found myself stuck with them. Both of them are from Bluenile(for some personal reason, I have to pick one from Bluenile instead of other vendors), no ASET or anything like that. I really appreciate your opinions on which one to choose:

#1:
G, VS2, 1.71Carat, $18,610
measurements: 7.61-7.65*4.74
Depth: 62.1%
Table: 57%
Crown Angle: 34.5°
Crown Height: 15.0%
Pavilion Angle: 40.8°
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%
Star Length: 50%
Lower Half: 80%
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick, Faceted (4.0%)
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Comments: cloud, crystal, feather, additional clouds are not shown.

#2:
G, VS2, 1.72Carat, $19,978
measurements: 7.69-7.71*4.76
Depth: 61.9%
Table: 55%
Crown Angle: 34.5°
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.8°
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%
Star Length: 45%
Lower Half: 75%
Girdle: Medium, Faceted (3.5%)
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Comments: cloud, crystal, additional clouds are not shown, pinpoints are not shown.

Funny thging is these two are all issued the GIA report on the same day: 02/13, but the first one is in 2013, while the second one, or the more expensive one is in 2012(quite old, maybe due to its price). Really need your guy's opinions and hope I won't have to return it after paying a huge money. Thanks in advance!

Anyone who can give me any suggestion?

What is the reason for only Blue Nile, if you don't mind me asking?

You have a very good budget to work with... The numbers look good on both of them, but without seeing the stone, it's impossible to tell if it's eye clean (should be for VS2, but we've had some that weren't...). Would you consider WF, GB, or JA? They have the diamonds in house and can compare stones for you. They also show photos (JA shows rotating 3D image).

G/VS2 is a good marker to be safe. :))

I would go with #2 because it will look bigger.

I doubt very seriously one could tell a difference in size for those two stones. This is literally hundredths of a millimeter difference... so I wouldn't even factor this in. I would choose whichever is eye-clean and/or has the best light performance. Unfortunately, I don't believe BN will provide an ASET so... It's anyone's guess. :|

I would never spend 20K on something I couldn't see... at least an ASET or have the opinion of a trusted PS vendor like Brian Gavin. This is only my opinion, of course. :halo:

Probably #1 for me. The lower half, stars and table combination for #2 doesn't look very good to me. perhaps someone with more experience could comment :)

In the past several months I did all the research work only on Bluenile, not any of the other vendors. And I just got the news that I would be relocated outside the United States very soon at the end of August. Since I was not familiar with WF, GB or JA, and worried that the time might not be enough for me to choose another one from them and I DO want to have my own ring before I go. Maybe it sounds crazy... I don't know. I am just at a loss........

Don't be at a loss -- the experts here will be more than happy to help you!! =) These people can find you an awesome diamond at a great price! The vendors above are the ones most suggested here on PS, and the praises are many. Don't worry -- you have plenty of time. ;))

Is the budget you listed for the entire ring or the stone alone? If just for the stone, what is your total budget? Also, what type settings does your GF like? If you don't know, it's always safe to have it set in an inexpensive classic 4 or 6 prong and let her decide what she'd like.

Edit: H color will be very white (can't tell the difference when placed right beside a G) and you can get premium optics for your pricepoint this way. Just something to think about. VS2 is good, however if you happened upon a totally eye-clean SI1, I'd jump on that!! ;))

I liked these... a few G's and several H's. My favorite is 217023 (H,VS1, 7.8 x 7.84) @ $17,970. PS members are also eligible for a 1-5% discount through JA and WF (not sure about the others). This one has a larger spread, is extremely clean, and the numbers look good. If you like it, I would put it on hold before a lurker does. Regardless of which stones you choose, JA will let you put 3 on hold and you can request ASETs and/or speak with them to make sure it's eye clean.

Here are some examples of classic settings recently purchased with a stone similar in size to those you've been looking at... just to give you an idea of what it might look like.

6 prong comfort band 2mm $345

6 prong knife edge 2mm $180 (w/ 1.54 ct, so yours would be larger) -- this is my favorite

To msop04:

Thank you so much for the advice. I need to have a closer look at these information sometime tonight. I understand that there might be little difference between G and H by naked eye, but since this is a rather big stone, we hope to get the best within our budegt. 20k is my whole budegt for both stone and setting, but a little higher than that would be fine. We do prefer a simple style as for the setting, so your recommandations are wonderful. A little different from your favorite, we prefer the third one :-) We also want the setting to be platinum.
