Hi,

My husband is going to get me a solitaire diamond in a few days time. I have been given a choice between these two stones. The problem is I am not physically at the store to be able to compare them. The difference in price is around US$2K between the two stones. Please do not ask me which store the stones are from. My husband and I are not diamond expert so we need your advise on getting the stone that is worth for the money.

Thanks

Which lab issued the grading reports?

They are certified from a well known jewelery store... not GIA, HRD or EGL...

I would go with #2. Safer from the numbers.

Thanks Stone-Cold11;

What do you mean safer.. can you elaborate a bit more on this. Btw I put 0.8 carat specs on the HCA and there is one element stated with "FIRE". Is that good?

Will you be also be able to tell the difference between 0.95 and 0.8carat size?

Hi Katyman

What Stone means is the first diamond has what we call steep deep crown and pavilion angles, this can lead to light leakage in some cases. The second stone's pavilion angle is a little less steep so it is possible that it could be slightly safer due to the angle combo being less ' steep deep.' With Tiffany they won't provide images in order to learn much more about the cut, will you be in a position to compare these diamonds at all before purchase?

As to visual size differences, a well cut .80ct will have the face up size of around 6mm, .95 about 6.4mm give or take a little, so there would be a visual difference between them.

Thanks Lorelei for your explanation.

Unfortunately I will not be able to compare the stones physically because the store is outside the country.

I am sure 0.95 will look a bit bigger than 0.8.

The problem is I cannot visualize how 0.8carat will look on my finger? Is it just nice size or too small?

My ring size is 51.5

You are welcome!

.80 is a great size I think and it should look super on you. I will see what I can dig up to give you a comparison.
