Hello everybody,

This is my first post here, I'm a newbie and a I need your help to choose between two diamonds for an engagement ring.

Here are the specs of the diamond I have just ordered :
GIA
Triple Excellent
VS2
F
0.87 carat
Fluorescence None
Depth: 62.5
Table: 57
Crown Angle: 35.5
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
Medium-slightly thick girdle - 4.0%
Inclusions: Crystal
HCA 4.0

But after purchasing it I discover this website and the HCA tool and I have been a bit disappointed as the diamond I've order had only HCA 4.0
So I call the jeweler but he didn't even know what HCA is!

At the beginning i was hesitating with a diamond with approximatively the same specs but in G color. I've chosen the first one because the only difference that I saw was the color and the clarity characteristics. But now that I know HCA tool I've seen that the second diamond had a better HCA score with 1.3.

Here are the specs of the second diamond
GIA
Triple Excellent
VS2
G
0.87 carat
Depth: 60.0
Table: 59
Crown Angle: 34.0
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Thin Medium girdle - 3.0%
Inclusions: Feather, Cloud, Crystal
HCA : 1.3

The Jeweler said that both are triple excellent and that I will not see any differences with the naked eye. But now I have a doubt.
What do you think? Will I see more difference between G or F color? or between HCA 1.3 vs 4.0 ? Do the inclusions of the second diamond (feather, cloud, crystal) can be an issue?

Thank you and sorry for my english

Return the HCA 4.0 diamond. It is tossed from consideration for poor performance.

Now, that doesnt mean th HCA 1.3 is it. We have to look at what you have there...

Triple excellent does not necessarily mean what the jewelers try to say it means in order to sell a diamond. There are many GIA triple ex stones that are not well cut/better stones out there.

Thank you for your answer whitewave,

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the diamonds, only the GIA reports. What do you mean by "We have to look at what you have there"?
I leave in Switzerland and here there are not good diamond selling website such as whiteflah or brian gavin...

The numbers look good... table is a little large but will give you better spread. It is a better choice over the 4.0 HCA.

If that is what your choice is down to, I would get the second one. A G looks white and I doubt anyone could tell the difference between a F and a G.

Good luck, and we always like to see hand shots after the proposal!

HCA 1.3 G VS2 3ex

Here are the GIA reports
And of course I will sent some hand shots with the ring after proposal...but only if she says Yes!

Go here and put the mm in to see the difference:

The first diamond is too deep, so you are paying for weight that no one will see.

OOPS: I'll add a pic: img_2285.png

Thank you but the link doesn't work...

I edited it above

The jeweler propose me a new one

What do you think about this one?img_2328_0.jpg

Go for the G you previously posted. This new one is too deep and angles are not complimentary.

EDIT...This "new" stone looks just like the first one you already bought.

Ok thank you:( what does it mean that the angles are not complimentary ?
The HCA score is 1.7...
I'll try to find a good F color that's why I can not decide to buy the G

Woops...never mind...when I entered the GIA number into the report check I got a different stone (with bad angles). The
photo you had entered was not view-able but I see that you have updated it so we can see the numbers.

The numbers on this "new" one look fine. Numbers are good...all looks good. Any pictures?

Yes I'm sorry the first photo that I have entered was not readable. The GIA number of the new diamond is 2246479935. I'm a bit relieved because the specs seem to be pretty good according to me.

I will ask the jeweler if he has a picture of this Diamond! Thank you for your opinion.

According to Paul Gian (beyond4cs.com) all three diamonds are mediocres. Even the last one which nevertheless approaches the dimensions he recommends except the width of the table which is 58 instead of 54-57 according to its criteria.
Maybe I don't need the absolute perfection but can we really say that a diamond who has GIA triple ex and that would be considered as an "ideal cut" according to the AGSL cut grade charts, with a HCA score of 1.7, is mediocre? Or Paul Gian is a bit too perfectionnist? Except of having a bionic eye can will I really be able to see any difference in real life between this diamond and an absolute perfect cut diamond in terms of light performance?

Very nice cut, ask if it's really eye-clean.

Yes totally eye-clean according to them
