Need Help Pricing/Negotiating

My girlfriend picked out a ring and diamond from Jared's. The ring is a ring/band combo with a total of 1 carat on the bands (.5 carat on each ring).

The diamond stats are:

Round Brilliant Cut
Measurement: 7.05 - 7.08 - 4.20 MM
Weight: 1.33 CT
Color: H
Clarity: I1
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very good

The price of the ring/band combo was 1,999 and the diamond was 5,000. From everything I am seeing online the max price should be about 4,200 for the diamond. I'm not sure if the ring/band is priced reasonably or not. It's white gold if that helps.

I also realize this isn't the clarity most on here would go with, but my girlfriend said she would sacrifice clairty for size. I know where the inclusion is, and it takes a pretty close inspection to notice it with the way the jeweler has the diamond mounted.

My two questions:
(1) Will Jared's negotiate price with me since there is obviously a markup on at least the diamond?
(2) if so, how would I go about the negotiating process?

Please do a search on here for jared - they''re not the worst, but definately not that great.
The main problem is not with the clarity, but the cut of the stone will most likely be inferior. The proportions and angles of the diamond''s cut is what makes it sparkle and really perform, alot morecso than the colour or clarity.

I''m not 100% against buying online, but I do have a couple issues with it.

1) I''m not crazy about seeing the diamond/ring for the first time after I''ve purchased it.
2) The 1 year no interest payment plan is very attractive to me. I don''t have 8,000 to drop on a ring right now, but it won''t be a problem paying it off over a year interest free.

I have to echo the other replies...buy online...you will do much better...a solid vendor like Good Old Gold or Whiteflash and you will get much more for your money! Happy hunting...

If you know what the style is that she likes, have the setting custom made at a place like Whiteflash and then buy a nicer diamond from them as well. Your girlfriend will thank you for it in the end.

If you really have to finance the ring, you can always get a 0% for a year credit card and make payments on it.

1) sometimes you can have the vendor ship it to an appriaser near you which, then you go to the appraisal appointment and you get to see the stone. if you don''t like it, the appraiser ships it back to the vendor. if you like it, you go from there accordingly. there are some fees involved such as the appraisal fee and some shipping, but it may be worth it if seeing it first is imperative to you. also, vendors such as GOG and Whiteflash have good return polciies which would allow you to receive the stone and if it is not to your liking, send it back. just check out their websites for their return policies. you can also take it to an appraiser yourself as soon as you get it, and again if you don''t like it just return it yourself (within the timeframe alotted by the vendor''s policy).

2) i have heard of some vendors offering a layaway. can''t hurt to call and ask if you see a stone you like if there is a way they can work with you.

also wanted to mention that some online vendors have great trade-up policies. GOG, for instance, gives you the full value of your purchase (on most diamonds) towards a new diamond provided you only spend $500 more. this would allow you to get the best cut and work up to the size she would love down the road. personally i think it is great to have this option.

i have not personally seen jared''s settings, but if comparable to kay''s or other chain jewelers i would MUCH rather put that money into the stone and/or get an AMAZING setting from mark morrell that is second to none in quality. mwmjewlery.com
