Hello,

I've been checking out diamonds for a few weeks now. I came across these two diamonds which were in my budget for my engagement ring. My gf wants a Tulip setting. But I have a dilemma here, I can't seem to choose if I want to go with the higher carat or the better cut.

1.2 Carat Round Very Good G VS1
1.09 Carat Round Excellent G VS1

The 1.2 has a better Carat size but the cut and the color isn’t as good. The diamond’s depth and angles, I read is a little bit too much. Also, the fluorescence in the 1.2 is a strong blue, will it make it look a little hazy? I'm kind of leaning towards the 1.09. What do you think?

Thank so much!

Never ever sacrifice cut. I wouldn’t pick either of those diamonds. What is your budget? What color metal will the setting be? Is she really sensitive to color?

The first one is a definite NO! The 2nd one is also a no but it isn't as horrible as the first. Both are passes.

My budget is around $5,000-$6000 max for a loose diamond. The color of the metal will be white gold. I was looking for a tulip setting, but out of the websites, I saw I only saw WIthClarity with them, and that was the two recommended to me. What are your suggestions?

I'm actually a little discouraged from looking at diamonds. :(

Can you post up a side view of the ring you are calling a "tulip" setting?

If you are just done looking, any WF in house stone will be great. Easy upgrades and good customer service. Upgrade policy only requires you spend $1 more.

Here are some virtual inventory stones. BN and WithClarity require you spend double for any upgrade.
