After putting off purchasing my wife a diamond ring as an upgrade to the colored stone engagement ring we originally got because I'm unable to determine how to do it since there are so many choices, I've decided on a setting, but need an emerald cut diamond to go with it. I've shown my wife some that I've picked out, only to be told that I did a poor job because it wasn't a good quality stone. So I'm hoping that you can help me find something with the following parameters:
Seller: James Allen
Shape: Emerald
Cut: Very Good or Ideal
Color: F or G
Carat: About 1.5 to 2
Clarity: VVS1, VVS2, VS1
Fluorescence: None or Faint
Depth: Less than 68

I'm trying to find the best quality one that meets those parameters. Assistance is appreciated.

Hi clulsone,
I'm feeling your pain. I know more about round diamonds but I know what my eyes like so I thought I would jump in and make some suggestions on a few diamonds. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will jump in as well. Here are a few EC stones I like. (I see now that one of them is a VS2 which may not work.) I have included a photo of Grace Kelly's ring because in your original post your wife mentioned wanting an understated elegant look like hers.

My favorites:
It's below your preferred colors, but the price is good and the tint doesn't seem to show much:

The crown is a bit low, but it has nice flashing:

The key to a good emerald cut *IMO is finding one where all the steps flash including down into the center of the stone.

Of the ones posted above these two are the best examples.

Other things to look out for
- not too many steps off (black) at the same time
- side-by-side steps working as one big step (makes step sizes look off)
- some centers (under the table) are somewhat static (not much going on in center of stone as far as flashing/mirroring)
- dont want too big of a table combined with a flat crown

Thanks everyone for the responses. This definitely helps me get closer to finding the right stone.
