Ellen,

That is very difficult to answer, if one does not know the actual setup used.

In the case of the ASET, in principal, we know the setup. Green comes from a very big area, ranging from the horizon until 45°. It is impossible to say which green spot came from which exact location in the hemisphere, based on the ASET however.

Without knowing the setup, it is impossible to state where in the 0 to 45°-area the black comes from. We do know however that it cannot come from the camera that is far out of that 0 to 45°-area.

Live long,

So when talking to the gemologist today, i should ask how prominent the dark x in the center is, depending on the surrounding and as the reference angle changes?

ask about how the center looks at half arm length and full arm length and 8 inches.
The expected answers: fine, fine, slight darkness.

strm and Paul, thank you for responding! strm, I knew there was a range, but the added explanation helped.

I would like to extend the very same thanks to everyone in this thread. I have spoken with Julianna @ JA who was very helpful and answered all my questions about the stone. She confirmed basically every thing that was said already in this thread.

If anyone comes across this thread wondering about how great the information is from the folks on here, now you know. Its great to have people out there who will help a stranger with some tough decisions.

Thanks again everyone. Ill post pics after the ring arrives. :)

Congrats. :)

I''m pretty much looking for the exact same stone, so all the information here, including how to evaluate the different images, was very helpful! In fact, I might have picked up this diamond if DoreFan didn''t get to it first. Thanks to everyone!
