I need your insights/ advices on choosing between these two

first one is a pear shaped diamond: http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/9243.htm

second is a radiant http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/6136.htm

- Shapewise: at first I didn't like the pear shape. But after going through "show me the bling" , I started to like the shape.

-Moneywise: the pear shaped one fit my budget. The radiant is a little over.

I am familiar with the color grading: light, fancy, vivid... but I dont have clues about depth, ratio...

After choosing one, I plan to put it on a split shank ring like this one (without the halo effect)

Which one you guys think that has the best value for the money? Which one would look good on the ring setting?

Thanks

What is your budget exactly?

I personally don't like the pear for your setting, so I'd pick the radiant. But I'd like to know the price.

the pear is 2k and the radiant is 3k

my budget is 2k

I checked James Allen yesterday and they seem more expensive

I don't like the steps on the pear so I would also pic the radiant but I see it blows the budget.

I was having the same concern about the steps on the pear. I am not sure if the stone would be less radiant. But it is cheaper and it appears larger than the radiant (i checked the measurement)

Thanks you both for the thoughts

Well take a look at this chart. It helped me a great deal when I was checking the sizes of princess cuts to see how close they came to the proper proportions to carat weight.

I won't talk about this because there's a different sub forum where this topic is confined. But with a budget of 2k for a yellow diamond had you considered these?

There would be a noticeable difference in size, however, I think the squared off pear is too angular for the setting you have picked - it's rounded and feminine. So, I think the 'juicy' pear would look better in that setting.

I understand. They are still diamonds though. This was just the forum I was talking about. But if you'd rather have yours the old fashioned way I understand :D

I will say a radiant or oval or something symmetrical would look more flattering in that setting.

Thanks you all. I knew that i would get great helps and im not wrong :). Wish I could rep you all.

so you help me eliminate the pear. I've just emailed fancydiamonds for price negotiation.

@boatluvr and lovebug1031: if fancydiamonds does not work out, i will go your route

haha sorry! It's too cute...here's another, it's an OEC - not sure if you're open to that - comes in just slightly under budget too!

When comparing prices of FCDs keep the following in mind.

Prices for two FCDs with identical GIA reports can vary a great deal, even from the same vendor on the same day.
This is because two things can vary within one GIA color grade, hue and saturation.

Let's pick Fancy Intense Yellow.

One Yellow can have a touch of green in it, but not enough for GIA to grade it Fancy Intense Greenish Yellow.
Another can have a touch of brown in it, but not enough for GIA to grade it Fancy Intense Brownish Yellow.
Again GIA graded them both Fancy Intense Yellow, but the one with some green will cost more than the one with some brown.

Next, each grade is one single amount of saturation; each grade includes a range.
Some Fancy Intense stones will have more saturation and be near Fancy Vivid Yellow.
Other Fancy Intense stone will have less saturation and be near Fancy Yellow.
I believe that Leibish chops up each grade into 10 subgrades for saturation and prices accordingly.

Sorry but this makes is nearly impossible to compare prices between vendors.

The radiant for sure. The pear doesn't go in the setting you like. The radiant will look super in the split shank.
