Hi all,

My first post here. Thinking of getting this stone

GIA Cert
Color: F
Cut: Excellent
Clarity: VS2
Carat: 1.2
Cost: $8129 USD

Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent

Depth%: 61.7%
Table%: 57%
Crown Angle: 35 degree
Pavilion Angle: 40.8 degree
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Fluorescence: None

Is this a good stone for that price? If not, I''d really appreciate if you helpful fellas could provide some link to alternatives. Thanks all!

Looks promising from the numbers. Do you have an Idealscope image of the stone?

Unfortunately I don''t. It''s a diamond from a Brick and Mortar store. I will visit them tomorrow, by then I can ask for that.

The numbers looks good, I think when you see it in person, you will know if the stone is right for you!

Thanks! When I go see them tomorrow, what sort of information should I ask from them and what kind of detail should I pay attention to in the diamond itself?

Honestly, this is the single largest purchase of any kind of goods of my entire life so I am a bit nervous!

Do you have the GIA report number?

Price looks good, can''t find anything better for the same specs.

Good luck. :)

Just see if you can check it out away from the store lighting, look for any dark patches or a dark ring around the table, if all looks good and it is probable it will, then you should be ok.

Make sure to look at the diamond away from the display lighting. The numbers on the stone are very good, so there should be no worries, but a well cut diamond will look good (though different) in a variety of lighting, while one not so well cut may go dull and lifeless out of the spotlighting.

Examine the diamond closely with your naked eye to see if you can see the inclusions without the aid of magnification. With a VS2 clarity, it shouldn't be an issue, but there are cases of VS2's not being eye clean. Make sure to look at the diamond from the top, as well as any angle that will be visible once set, such as from the sides if in a open prong setting.

After that, ask them for a copy of the GIA report. They may have the orginal or might just have a copy and will get the original when the diamond is purchased--that's normal practice and OK. Have the sales associate then help you loupe the diamond and point out how the inclusions match up with the diagram on the report so that you would be able to identify the diamond in the future if you purchase it. Only do this after checking for eye-clean, as seeing the magnified inclusions can then make you see things that aren't really visible without the loupe, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am going to check it out now! Needless to say I am pretty excited!
