Hi all!

I am new to diamond buying, recently came across a 2ct vs1 H XXX GIA graded stone. signature ideal cut. however the only this is that the stone has a chip and natural on the girdle as listed in the report. The price quote is 18K, what do you guys think? Thanks in advance!!!

GIA VS1? You are fine. On clarity.

Who decided it was ideal and what criteria did they use? GIA doesn't assign ideal as a grade and GIA excellent is too broad.

Please post the GIA lab report #.

Nvm, it's GIA vs2. The cut is
41.4 pavilion
35 crown
61.7 depth
57 table
Medium girdle
None cutlet
Symmetry excellent
Polish excellent
Cut excellent
Flourence none
2.05ct

Current asking price is 18.5K for the stone only
What do you think? My only concern is the chip that's stated in the report.

Thanks!

Pass, IMO the stone can no longer be an excellent symmetry with a chip.

That stone might have leakage with those angles. Here are some parameters to help you stay in a safer range if you are buying without an ASET image.

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (41.0 okay with a 34.0 crown angle)

The numbers you posted result in a poor score of 4.8 on the HCA when 2.0 and lower is the recommended score. (1.2 is not better than 1.9. All stones 2.0 and under are worth considering. The HCA is a screening tool for GIA Ex stones.)

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

light return: very good

fire: fair

scintillation: fair

spread: very good

What you want to see is Excellent for the first three items and very good (typical for ideal cut stones) for spread.
