How important are HCA scores?

good one?

Thanks in advance

Hi hai and welcome!

HCA scores only matter as a first round eliminator. What it does is help the consumer weed out diamonds which are less likely to perform well, those that score above 2. Stones scoring below 2 are then considered worth further evaluation and this is done with image analysis and advice from an expert vendor and your own preferences.

The diamond you posted is a nice cut certainly but the crown angle is a bit shallow to consider it among the top cuts for beauty and optical performance, but it still could be a good stone. A shallower crown * can* indicate the stone might be down a little on fire ( coloured light) with more of an emphasis on while light or brilliance. But that's only an estimate. To get a balance, a crown angle of around 34 - 35 degrees is preferred here.

But if you aren't bothered about getting the absolute best cut best balanced diamond, this could be a definite contender if you have other priorities. I colour with medium blue fluorescence I think is a nice combo - although opinions vary whether fluorescence can help a slightly lower colour look a little whiter. VS1 shouldn't have any clarity issues and the proportions are good although a steeper crown angle you'll find is preferred here as I mentioned above. If it fits the bill, you can request an Idealscope image from JA, post it here and we can take a look.

Can you do better for cut quality? Possibly, probably, but it depends on what you want.

That's beautiful... Hearts and arrow too.. Might bite this one. Was waiting on idealscope from JA.

If you're interested, I highly suggest putting it on hold. Lurkers are known to snap up stones

The crown angle is lower than recommend. I would pass. Much prefer the WF stone posted above.

This is a great size and worth an IS. Clouds not shown noted, so I'd want to be 100% the JA gemologist can review for any impact from those clouds. So, ask about the clouds before asking for an IS.

A bit smaller, but still very clean and worth requesting an IS.

Beautiful stone. I would not worry at all about clarity in a VS1 ACA
