Hello All, over 10 years ago, you all helped me pick out a wonderful ring from James Allen. At the time my budget was much lower and I now want to take advantage of James Allen's 100% upgrade program for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The current diamond cost $7,700 and it is a round 1.41 carat, J S1. My budget would be $16k-22k and I am looking to get into at least 2 carats, the bigger the better but also want to try and upgrade the color to something closer to G/H. Despite the color of the current ring, it is really brilliant. Any help on what I should be looking at would be greatly appreciated. For starters, I saw this one: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-24575622

This one is much less expensive. I know it's an I color and it weighs a little less than the one you found, but it has the same spread as your find and just saves you so much money. Though maybe it's too cheap for the upgrade? Hopefully some of the real experts weigh in soon, I just wanted to link this one in the meantime.

If you haven't seen this website, it can help you visualize how much of a difference the upgrade makes: https://www.diamdb.com/

your current J 1.4 is shallower cut @33.5 so bright... smaller table too 54%
Steeper 35.5/ 36 cuts will skew more to fire so there's that to consider...

Do you prefer another w/similar proportions to the current

BTW: nice arbitrage getting full cost $7,700 credit towards the new diamond.
Current retail on similar are much less (-40%) now....

Super helpful! It wouldn’t clear the 2x price though but yes staying at the low end of the range wouldn’t probably make the wife just has happy :)

Yeah, I did go back and see what I would have paid 10 years later so there’s definitely some recouped value here by upgrading. I am not a diamond expert at all so I just know that in the thread 10 years ago, the experts were pretty fired up about the ring I got for $7k haha

What would a strong blue look like day to day? I saw that one and ignored as strong blue was one of the lower hue settings to stay away from.
they look pretty much same as none Fl until you hit them w/ black light UV.... could maybe be some subtle improvement in color (g looks more like E/F) in sunlight..... best thing these days is with simple UV pen light you can be assured it's natural origin and not a cheap synthetic (lgd)
