If anyone has any idea of who this maker is I would greatly appreciate the help.

It was assayed in London (Leo mark)

My understanding that any shop that makes its own rings can add stampings, and with no central repository of all shops ever (as I understand it) it is difficult to work out the history on a piece.

Thanks OS..

Any idea what the Date mark is? I can make out the Leo pretty good but the one beside it is a bit challenged.

You could try putting some tracing paper over it and rubbing a pencil over it, to bring out the design and 'lose' the background, which might make it clearer?

You can contact one of the Assay office in England and they can decipher for you the hallmarks as they are registered.

Trace A Hallmark page from the London Assay Office:

This is an easy-to-read chart of the London Assay Office's date marks:

Thanks so much Molly for posting those links!

Over my long life I've bought many hallmarked sterling silver items at garage sales.
Now I can figure out their provenance.

Gotta love garage sales for bargains on treasures.
Old cast iron pans with decades-old seasoning in perfect condition is another treasure I keep and eye out for.
