Hi everyone,

This is my first post but I've been learning a lot on here over the past few weeks. My F2B and I have been e-ring shopping at various local B&M stores and I've shown her lots of ideas online. She has chosen a setting she absolutely loves above all others but even though it's quite simple I haven't been able to find anything the same elsewhere. Has anyone seen something like this?

www.spencediamonds.com/product/style-7849

The site lists it at $1899 but they are selling it for $1000 CDN. I know their markup is huge but to go a custom ring route, 2 local jewlery stores quoted around $1800. I like the idea of buying online where I can get the diamond and setting in one place and not have to worry about it. But after speaking with a couple of places, due to the bezel design, it requires having the diamond in hand prior to making the bezel which means I'd have to go with whomever builds the setting.

My budget is only $3000 CDN (not including tax) and I can get a similar 0.6c diamond online for the same price as a 0.4c in store. It's not a huge difference in size but enough that it makes this ring pop. The smaller stone is only slightly larger than the band itself.

I would love to know what other think? The profile of this ring is not good on its own but looks wonderful when paired with the matching band.

Thanks,
Brian

That's a unique design and I doubt you can find something exactly like it somewhere else. You may be able to find something similar, maybe event nicer, but if it MUST be that exact ring, I suggest you get as much information on the diamond options as possible and post reports here (GIA or AGS certificates only) for help in selecting the best stone in your budget.

However, I suggest also looking at more options online. You are right that you can pay less for nicer products online. Price out a similar ring and a larger stone than you could get, and present your intended with her options. She may opt for a smaller stone in the setting she loves, or a different setting with a larger stone.

I suggest looking at the variety that James Allen offers, something like this: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-and-twisted-shank-engagement-ring-item-17466

Edited to add: you say the profile of the ring "on its own is not good," and I want to remind you and the intended wearer that the side profile is what you see most often. You don't walk around with your hand flat in front of you so you see the top of the ring. When doing almost any activity, especially if you work an office job, you see the side of the ring much more than the top. If you aren't in love with the profile, you may not like the ring in the long run.

Hi rubybeth, thank you for your reply.
She has her heart set on that ring, mainly because she has already tried on so many... And while they look nice in the display case, ultimately her mind changes when it's on her finger.

From the sounds of it, it seems like I'm better off biting the bullet and buying from spence to get the exact ring even though it means a smaller diamond. I know she would be happier this way than choosing a different style with a larger diamond. I was just wondering if anyone saw a very similar style somewhere else.

Thanks and I plan to get opinions on a diamond before purchasing. I have already turned down 3 GIA stones they had in stock and am getting them to bring in another for me to look at.

As for the profile, yes im not a fan when it's the e-ring alone but complimented with the WB it looks very nice. The band tucks up under the bezel.

Just to clarify, I wouldn't call that a bezel, I would call it a tension setting. You will definitely want to insure the ring because if one of those "arms" moves even a bit, the center stone can be lost.

i immediately thought of Maevona and they have much prettier profiles. however they are not cheaper.
http://www.maevona.com/ring-detail.html?rid=760 non pave version: http://www.maevona.com/ring-detail.html?rid=770 there are a few jewelers in Canada if you go to their site and find a retailer, maybe call and find out pricing.

why not buy a stone online and purchase setting in-store and have them set the stone?

Never seen anything exactly like it...sorry :(. You could have it custom made (like by David Klass) but the cost is going to eat up the savings you get paying $1000 can for it. Have you asked the jeweler if they will sell just the setting? Here in the US you can get someone to set the stone for you...ranges
around $100 give or take depending where you live.
