So I plan on popping the big question in August and have looked around for a little bit... and fortunately stumbled across this site at the last minute. I put the ring I thought was the one on hold and was going to put a deposit down... but all of a sudden I felt very uneasy and backed out last minute. Here are the specs of the ring I was about to purchase...

Oval - 1.67 Ct. - D - SI2 - EGL USA cert
$8500

It did appear to be eye clean but had SIGNIFICANTLY noticeable inclusions under 10x.. which bothered me along with the last minute "throw-in" that the stone was EGL and NOT GIA certified which I requested...

Here were my original parameters before I almost got swayed into pulling the trigger on the ring above:
Oval
1.5 Ct.. the larger the better :P
Color - D to G
Clarity - Fl to VS2
GIA certified

I would like to keep the diamond at just around $8k.. but willing to stretch up higher if the right stone is available.

Here are a couple GIA certified rings I've found..
1.48 ct - D - SI1 - $8362

1.45 ct - H - VS2 - $8504

1.61 ct - D - SI1 - $8637

1.51 ct - G - SI2 - $7576

Here are some EGL diamonds I've found via the PS search...
1.72 - G - VS2 - $7918

1.47 - G - VS2 - $8361

Any help in my search is greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome! :wavey: I am glad that you found us before you pulled the trigger. Any shop who says "oh by the way, I know you asked for GIA, but this is EGL" is not one I'd want to give my $$ to. If you've done any reading here, you'll already know that the D/SI2 EGL stone you saw is likely equal to a G/I1 GIA stone. If you were to look up the price on a G/I1 stone, it would probably be less than what you were quoted for the EGL stone, so that's one of the many reasons we tend to favor GIA (or AGS for rounds) here on PS.

I do not care for the Whiteflash stone that you linked to and the others do not have photos, which is critical in evaluating fancy cuts (i.e. anything other than round). My suggestion is to CALL (not email) Yekutiel at ID Jewelry and tell him what you're looking for. Very often, jewelers have access to stones that aren't listed on their websites. Tell him your specs and that you want an oval with a minimum bowtie effect. You could also call James Allen and see what they have.

Here' an example of an oval I like (price is way over budget and I'd never recommend a VVS2, but I wanted you to see a good example versus one with an obvious bowtie):

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.57-carat-e-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-198031

Bowtie effect:

I'll do a bit more searching, but I think your best bet is calling IDJ and JA. Good luck!

Spoke with JA and they told me to just keep periodically checking their website.
Spoke with Yekutiel @ ID and he was signficantly more helpful and informative... he has the following stone which sounds incredibly promising...

1.40 Ct. - E - SI1

I have attached the GIA report... as well as a photo. What do you guys think?

I found the following on B2C for slightly less than the above..
1.45 Ct - D - Si1

Here is a comparison looking at the GIA reports.

Polish/Symmetry is rated at "Good" vs. "Very Good" for the 1.4ct
No fluorescence vs. Faint fluorescence
Twinning wisps, crystal, indented natural vs. Twinning wisps
Ratio 1.35 vs. 1.75
8.44 x 6.26 x 4.14 vs. 10.07 x 6.08 x 3.62
Slightly thick/Thick faceted 55%/66.1% depth vs. Medium/Very Thick Faceted 58%/59.5% Depth

Attached is the second GIA report for the 1.45 ct..

Weeellll....I wish I could say I love it, but I just don't. I couldn't see a photo on the second stone, only the GIA report. Hopefully, some of the experts will chime in and advise you. Keep working with Yekutiel...he's an honest vendor who work hard to make you happy.

The 1.45 D SI1 looks promising ...like the numbers better. Just not fond of long thin ovals like the picture that was posted.

Here's another on JA...6.5 x 9...it is shallow but can't see much leakage.

It is so thin and long, not a style most tend to like, almost looking like a fat marquise.

I did some research on the GIA cert # and it appears as though the diamond used to be a 1.43 marquis before being recut into a 1.4 oval... hence the length.

I would look into the H VS1 that ariel posted.

Poor length to width ratio for an oval. Looks more like a marquise.

Yup, definitely need pictures before deciding to pursue for more information (beyond the lab report).

Here is another ring that I am looking at... Attached is the ASET image as well
1.5 D - SI1

Ovalbuyer- can you start your own thread? We'd be happy to help but it will get too confusing trying to hunt for 2 people on
One thread.

In the new thread let us know what specs you are looking for and budget.

Bhj - personallly I'm not liking the 1.5 D. Its got something weird going on in the area where you would normally
See a bow tie. There is a dark area in the shape of "V"s that sort of stop the eyes instead of a nice faceting pattern all the
Way to the edge of the stone.
