So after a recent conversation with the girlfriend I have determined that SIZE MATTERS!

She is most concerned about the size of the diamond and she definitely wants a round brilliant.

After I got this info out of her I have decided to go for size and sacrifice some of the other aspects in order to make it more affordable.

I''m trying to find a diamond that is eye clean to the everyday person (not necessarily to a diamond expert) and I am willing to go down to J-K in color because she actually does like that warm color too.

What size would you consider reasonably large? I have been thinking somewhere between 1.5 to 2 carats? I''m open to ct weights under those ranges of course such as 1.4 or 1.8 etc. because this may save some money.

Please help me find an affordable but reasonably sized diamond for my girl if you have the time. I feel like I''m wasting my time searching all alone because I haven''t gotten anywhere.

KP, use this and play.

Some kind of budget would otherwise get us started, but if you use the search by cut database alone, you''ll be fine on your own.

The search tool RG linked is very useful.

Can you give us an idea of your budget for the stone so that some of the PS sleuths can suggest some possibilities? (1.5-2cts is a very large stone in most areas of the country--the average e-ring in the US is under 1/2ct.)

Okay so after looking at the link posted above I have learned that 1.5-2 is definitely not going to fit my budget.

But hey...that is why im posting here, to figure things out! lol sorry

My budget for the stone is 5000-7000 so it looks like I will be shooting for a 1-1.5 ct diamond instead.

So, using the tool I suggested, I''m seeing 4 options easy to consider, starting with this ACA for $6041 wire priced, 6.86 ml diameter, the only H, the only SI2, at 1.21 carats. There''s 2 others from WF (both Is at 1.24 and 1.303, the latter going a bit above your budget at $7123, and one from JA, another I, at $6400...these 3 are SI 1s.

You might check a bit more broadly; see my suggestion to the "godfather" here, but there are some ideas...

1.60 J SI1--ask about eye-clean

1.57 J VS2

You can ask for IS images from JamesAllen for up to three diamonds.
I think for your size girl, the 1.6 Jet2ks points to is quite promising...at $20 above your stated budget. And...MrsW has a nice one, too. Lots of options. I do see WF has also for a bit more a 1.56 J SI 1 for $7362. JA on pricing can be hard to beat. I do wish they screened more through the search by cut db, to make it easier to find those that clearly pass the HCA screening test, but I''ve told them that before...

Here''s another from JA...1.64, I SI 2, $6400, AGS0, 7.53 diameter...

Thanks for your suggestions. All of the diamonds look great. I was wondering about anyones thoughts on I1 clarity diamonds? I noticed that James Allen has a few right now that are very affordable and I have heard that you can call to have them inspect the diamond and tell you if the inclusions are very noticeable, or if they would be very minor to the untrained eye. Any thoughts on this?

I1 are not created equal, you especially need the help of a trusted vendor to evaluate the ' eyecleanliness' or lack of. With larger diamonds there is a fair chance that I1's won't be eyeclean, if you aren't in a rush then you could try to find one which might suit you but if it is for an engagement diamond, it might be best to stick to SI2 and above.

Thanks for the advice, I guess I need to see some I1 stones in person to see how I feel about them but for now I will stick to SI2 and up.

I have another question regarding the grade. Since I am looking for diamonds in a lower color range (I-J-K) should I avoid EGL rated diamonds at all costs due to the fact that there color ratings could be off and I might think Im getting a K colored diamond and end up with an M color? Should I stick to only GIA and AGS ratings while searching or can I include others as well? Sorry if I seem naive, but I just want to become informed. Thanks in advance!

EGL stones are fine if you take into consideration that they are considered more lenient in grading both color (as you mentioned) and clarity. They are generally priced accordingly in the market (an EGL stone will be less than a GIA or AGS stone with the same "paper" grade). So if you look at EGL stones, maybe bump your specs to be sure of getting something in the range you want. Instead of I-J-K SI1 & SI2, look for G-H-I VS2 & SI1 in EGL graded stones.

I have seen some terrific I1''s in the past 15 years.

If you can find the right I1 that has an ASET image available for viewing as well as a loup feature
so you know what kind of I1 it is. For instance.... you don''t want it to be a kind of I1 with a feather
inclusion reaching the surface or the EDGE of the diamond.

Thanks for the advice on the I1''s. I''ve contacted the sales center for James Allen to try and set up a meeting at their Maryland office since that is where I live :) Hopefully I will be able to take a look at some of the lower colors and SI2 and I1 diamonds to guage what I would consider acceptable. I think I might have an even harder time finding a setting.

Does anyone know of a three stone setting with a Round Brilliant center and Princess side stones...and maybe some more smaller accent stones along the band if possible? I cant seem to find a setting like this.

It is possible one could be custom or semi custom made for you.
