Thanks a lot, I actually did, I'm just not sure what exactly to look for. I know what things are considered "good", but I always consult people who know a bit more about how these factors work together than myself. That's why I figured RockyTalk might not be a bad idea.

BGD's signature blue collection is all AGS ideal stones, which is the best in the industry!!! That is an excellent stone with excellent cut and color and clarity and the size that you wanted. Are you not considering it? I'm not understanding your post...

I am definitely considering it, I think it might be a tad bit high in terms of my price, but that would just mean a bit more saving. Can they place a hold on a stone for you?

That is one of my favorite settings!!! thats going to be a fabulous ring! if it really has to be under 9k, this would be lovely, i know its a J but a Brian GAvin stone is going to be SOOOO bright.

or this would be nice and in budget, and the flour would be so cool

if you could go a twinge over i like that first stone
You really cant go wrong with a good BG stone :))

Haha, unfortunately the budget has to be firm, otherwise I'd spend way too much on this. How does Fluorescence affect the stone? Might sound dumb, but I'm still learning all the ropes, I saw everyone loving BG stones, so I'm quite keen on going with them.

Also, if you wouldn't mind, you mentioned that the first one might be the better of the three, is this strictly due to size or other factors as well?

Hows that one?

This is gorgeous!!

The first one that 04diamond posted is very nice and it is larger. But the 1.15 I VS2 is great, too, if it fits your budget better!

Fluorescence only shows when a stone is in the presence of UV light. It can have a positive effect of making a stone look whiter. So I would prefer an I color stone with fluoro over one without. You almost never even know the fluoro is there unless you go to nightclubs with black lights. And there it will glow a purple color!

Oh, and I have one question for you. Did she pick out this setting or show you one similar to it that she loves? It is not going to work well with a wedding band, and I would not pick that style unless it is specifically what she wants.

It likely wont affect it in any performance type way. In long wave UV lighting environment(in direct sunlight or club lighting) it will fluoresce like the photo you see on BGD website, in most light environments though it will have no impact. Some people think that it gives the stone a slight color advantage, but according to a study by GIA most consumers can't discern any differences. In very rare cases the fluorescence can make the stone appear hazy or milky but you don't need to worry about that, Brian evaluates all his stones for any negative impact.

Thanks for the clarification, she actually showed a similar Yurman one to a friend that she loved, so here we are.

not necessarily "better" but just because its bigger and brighter than the J. However, I would probably go with that J because thats equal to or greater than 95% of people out there, so personally if i was setting it in a solitaire like you plan, and have a firm budget, id go with the bigger J. BUT if you think you or she is color sensitive, then go with the I 1.15.

as for flour, in general it can be a good or a bad thing. THe bad is that it can in some diamonds (about 1%) cause a stone to look oily or foggy. The good news is, when it doesnt do that, it is actually a cool thing because it can help a stone look whiter and also because some people are afraid that flour automatically means bad, the rough is a bit cheaper. Brian gavin is capitalizing on this by finding rough that has no negative effect of flour and then selling it as stones that can look brighter than the color grade they are.

Are you sure she was specifically wanting it as an engagement ring? or was it just "I love that ring!"... ie a fashion ring?

My SO misinterpreted my positive comments about the style I liked. That's why I responded. I said, "Oooo I looove that ring" and he took that to mean I loved that style as an e-ring-- which couldn't be further from my true desires.

Most of those Yurman rings are not engagement rings, though. They are fashion right hand rings for the most part. Her friend is sure she meant she liked it for an engagement ring?

Stick with the I color. :))

(okay Ms P and I were thinking the exact same thing!)

Definitely engagement ring, these questions were targeted and prepped beforehand haha.

disagree. i love woobug02 ring like that, she sets matching band on either side, it looks fabulous

Hers appears to have thinner shanks and it has matching wedding bands which helps. Does BG have the matching wedding band?

it looks good with one band too, im sure BG could make one to match

I like that, I think I could be bribed to get the matching Yurman band as well.

Those are both awesome as well. In terms of future upgrade ability, do both BG and WF have a good policy?

Yes, they both have good upgrade policies but I think BG has some conditions like you have to upgrade two things, like size and color, etc. I don't think WF does. I like the WF setting better since it isn't as bulky, and they could make the matching band at the same time. I'd request either 90plat/10iridium or 95plat/5ruthenium as those are harder alloys and will scratch less than the softer 95/5iridium.

Id probably do it in 14k gold sense it harder than 18k and cheaper than that and plat.

I love this look with bands either side. Still makes your ER the feature but matches as a set. Love it.

I recently received my bgd blue J stone. I was very concerned about the color and actually lost sleep over it after I ordered it. I already had a plan laid out for an upgrade before I even got the ring

I want to let you know it is truly one of the most beautiful stones I have ever seen. It is in a setting with g/h stones and I cannot tell a difference in the colors from the top. In very specific lighting, if I hold the ring just so, I can see a slight tinge from the side. I am thrilled with my ring and I don't know why I ever doubted a J colored stone from them. It is beautiful and allowed me to get a bigger size than I would otherwise be able to afford.

As for fluorescence, on a cloudless day when the sun is very bright my ring turns a kid of purplish-blue. I'm sure part of it is the reflection of the sky, but it seems to be enhanced by the strong blue fluorescence.

You can always have them ship you the stone before it is set to see if you like it if you aren't sure.
