Hi, new user here seeking help selecting a diamond. I've currently narrowed the search down to a few on James Allen buddy got a ring from there and recommended it, but I'm open to other suggestions regarding where to purchase.

We have talked about the ring already. She's a size 4.25/4.5. Overall, my girlfriend likes rose gold (she has a lot of other rose gold things), and she wants a diamond that's at least a carat if it's a solitaire and a halo if it's smaller. I've read some things about the quality of mass produced halo rings vs custom hand forged, but I'm on a bit of a budget. $7000 is the absolute most I really want to spend on the engagement ring since we have wedding bands on top of that. From what Ive seen, the halo setting I'm checking out doesn't look like what she dislikes "too much metal and a flying saucer" .

A few diamond selections, and setting selections are below. All are from James Allen... any feedback would be helpful. I did check them all on the HCA calculator and they all check out

Rose gold pave with crown: $1500 (any)
Rose gold petite halo: $1200 (any)
Rose gold petite pave: $880 (only for >1 ct)

0.9 J VS2: $3030 GIA 1243157657

61.2% depth
CA 35/ PA 40.6
No fluoro

1.02 J VVS1: $4580 GIA 6232201103
6.43x6.46x3.99mm
57% table
61.8% depth
CA 35/ PA 40.8
Medium blue fluoro

0.81 G VVS1: $3960 GIA 6242026011
5.98x6.02x3.68
56% table
61.3% depth
CA 34.5/ PA 40.6
Medium blue fluoro

1.20 J VS2: $4830 IGI 234666664 6.8x6.86x4.2mm
55.5% table
61.5% depth
CA 34.1 / PA 40.5
Very slight fluoro

Went with Js (threw in a G I would consider for comparison) that have excellent cuts since it'll be in the rose gold. Not sure if this is a good or bad idea. She actually Likes vintage older cuts and they're usually warm colored and she doesn't seem adverse to it. However I can't find any of those online that I'd be able to really see before purchasing which makes me nervous, and most high quality ones I've seen seem to be more expensive than I can afford.

Any help is appreciated!

Couple more just because I worry about the J being yellow

0.9 ct H VS2 GIA 1239960038 $4370
6.17x6.21x3.81
Table 57%
Depth 61.5%
35/40.5 CA/PA
No fluoro

1.03 H VS2 GIA 7238573843 $5670
6.48x6.5x4.01mm
56% table
61.7% depth
33/41.2 CA/PA
Strong blue fluoro

Leaning toward H/G color now. I'd love to get this last one and put it in one of the solitaire settings.

the GOG August Vintage cuts are not vintage stones but stones cut in the OEC style:

and you could ask about a solitaire within budget.

ok, i'm done with the vintage stones. lol! I wouldn't give up on that thread...

Wow! Thank you all for the responses! I have some exploring to do of all of these options - I am sure I'll be back with questions!

Do you think the K color will be too yellow, I've never seen one in person but did see a thread on here about the J color looking yellow

there seems to be a lot here on PS that prefer a warmer colored vintage stone. totally depends on the person though. I like a warmer stone in yellow or rose gold but definitely should find out if it's ok with the future fiance. You'll see the most tint from the side, and face up it may appear ivory or more creamy compared to a crisp white G colored stone. GOG has some good info on colorless vs near colorless, etc.

From GOG, one of these in a halo?

I'm inclined to disagree with the previous poster. When women want a diamond the assumption is she wants it white. I would get a white one unless she says otherwise. Not the other way around.

If you're aiming for a carat or higher I'd stay at I or above.

And this is coming from someone who wears a K
