I hope I did not make a bad choice...

Both GIA VS2 ex/ex/ex

Could there really be a significant difference?

The stone I chose got a worse score on HCA, but I liked the stone and it only has one small crystal.

The stone I did not choose got a better HCA score but had a small feather and a GIA cert from 2005...both made me nervous.

Both 2 carats and both same price.

Could there really be a huge difference in sparkle or should they be somewhat similar based on GIA grade?

Please help.

Do you have any images of the stones? (ASET, idealscope etc)? Post the angle/% from the GIA certs here too.

It's probably okay...some people wouldn't ever choose a stone with a feather so you did well in that regard.

the one I did not choose with feather and 2005 cert...

The one you did not choose has much better numbers. I am betting the first one has some leakage. Always come here with the specs before you buy!

(Gosh, the one you chose has an HCA of 5.1!!! That is way, way out of the range we'd recommend.)

Does that make it bad stone? How could GIA rate it a G VS2 Triple Ex?

I did not pick the smaller one for two reasons...the certificate was from 2005 so I was worried it had been worn by someone else and not re-certified and it had a feather in the middle and the one I chose was very clean.

how did they compare in real life?
If you thought it was sparkly enough then it's okay!

I looked at it next to about 5 other diamonds and it sparkled far more and was bigger so I figured it was the one to go with.

The other diamond that I was considering was at a different store.

that's good, you let the eyes do the talking. don't let it get to you about HCA and all that.
everyone here is just a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to diamonds, but I'm sure the one you bought is very nice. Enjoy it

Was the feather visible to your eye? If it is, then I'd eliminate both stones, personally. There are better ones out there.
