Hi Everyone,

I need advice on the perfect Emerald Cut Diamond with great sparkle. Below are suggestions from customer service:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.21-carat-d-color-vs1-clarity-sku-21363734

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.20-carat-d-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-25382252

These are the ones I found:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.22-carat-d-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-25128629

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.20-carat-d-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-23993294

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.09-carat-e-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-25348801

**Also, some of them are within the ideal dimensions for an emerald cut and some are not. The ones that are not, have the best price.

Thanks in advance for your help!

So, what you want to see are the "steps" flashing on/off (turning white/black) as the stone rotates. That's what makes an
emerald cut lively.

So here is what I'm setting

#1...looks pretty darn good (pretty lively when moving)
#2...looks good but has 1 step that I worry about (might be a leaky step. We would need to get Karl_K to take a look to make sure one
way or the other.
#3...A little "quite" under the table. Facets outside of the table on crown look good, though. I would eliminate this one because you can
find better.
#4... Again, a little too quiet under the table. Looks like there could be some leaky facets in the center. I would elimiate this one also.
#5...Same as #4. When you spin it fast you just dont see much going on under the table.

That's what I'm seeing.

@tyty333 Thank you so much for your response. @Karl_K, can you please help me with this (also tagging @MMtwo due to the beautiful emerald in their profile picture:kiss2:)?

Also, my concern with the first one is the major depth percentage on the GIA report. Its a 1.21 carat but faces up as a 1 carat because the bottom is too heavy due to the depth percentage.

Also, is there an issue if an emerald cut reflects the GIA number? Would that be a cut issue?
Here is the emerald cut diamond I'm referring to and also considering: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.30-carat-d-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-25422557

I worry about this one being leaky too...hopefully @Karl_K can comment, but he has been super busy lately.

I also like #1 from these videos. It has a higher crown which accounts for some depth. It looks lively.

Notice the large dark areas, then large light grey areas in and around them. Not a good sign.

Yes this one is not attractive.

I agree that 1 looks promising. In an over obstructed environment the obstruction areas are striped with light return. Then they flash with movement.
Cut wise it has potential.
Compare the mm size not the depth, a step cut can have much greater depth but face up larger because it has better angles and less hidden material.
That said I have not done so, this is just a fly by while dinner is cooking and I just have a few min.

2nd large dark zone that stayed dark with some more tilt and dont flash.

3-5 what @tyty333 said.
Bravo @tyty333

Under 7k, but I posted the last one I'm interested in.

Agree with @Dreamer_D

Not as good as number 1, but better than the others you posted.

Does it have to be JA, or can we try Blue Nile or another vendor?

@tyty333 JA has a nice setting that I like but I'm open to other alternatives.

I found another one on a different site. What do you think?

It looks less lively than the first.

Why are you choosing D VVS stones? You could go with FG and VS and see no difference and put the budget to size, rather than compromising cut hunting for one that faces up larger.

The F-G Diamonds that are VS were not as sparkly like the others. I also notice body color with those stones.

Sparkly is caused by cut; unless the stone has inclusions that limit sparkle the high clarity you seem to want "possibly" could be a step down to VS.

In emerald cuts, yes, the color and clarity will be important because, for example, a round brilliant has so many more facets to cause the sparkle (and help hid some small inclusions).

But the reality is you would need to look closely at what the inclusions are and where they are.

Have you seen stones in those color grades in oerson? If not you should.
