Hi everyone!

(New to here) and curious about what size eternity band I should get. My FH gave m a stunning 1.5 ct oval engagement ring on a whisper band (yellow gold - 6 prongs - size 6). Its really stunning because it tricks the eye into thinking its an oval / marquise. Im looking at an eternity band and have NO idea what to get. Looking at a round shared prong OR u-ring OR shared prong u setting.

Let me preface that Im not looking for a small eternity band. I plan to wear them together and separated by a 2-3mm gold flat band. I also am okay with the eternity band being equally as stunning as the ER --> all diamonds are created equal, right!? Let em shine!

So far I have the following:

3.3mm (.15 each diamond)
3.5mm (.17 each diamond)
3.7mm (.20 each diamond)

Im leaning towards 3.7mm / 3.5mm. But I have no idea which one and could use some help. I feel as though if I get the .15 Ill wish I got the .20 and vice versa. Again, Im okay with a blinged out finger and have 2 stunning pieces that are independent of each other. I also have larger hands - but very slender (what can I say I have long fingers). Im almost 6 feet tall as well so I want something that's proportionate to my height / hand size.

Would love to see what you ladies have and advice!

Would you mind posting a picture of your ring on your hand so we could have a visual to gage selection? I'm trying to imagine what your ER looks like on your hand to give an opinion, and a pic would help greatly....thanks! And welcome to PS, its a fun place! :wavey:

Of course!

So here is my ring with a 3.5mm eternity band (purchased off of amazon to test it with the size) and then a fun ring I got while my ring was being fixed (a prong came loose). I also purchased "to see" with a cartier band - I would do the love wedding band because its thinner.IMG_4250.jpegIMG_4505.jpegIMG_4511.jpeg

@sarahb also would love your opinion if you think round diamonds would look nice. I don't plan to ever upgrade / change out my wedding band. And when kids come along theres a chance I might just wear it without my ER because this one sticks up more

Thank you for posting your pics, it helps greatly. You have such elegant hands, & tons of real estate to wear a stack beautifully, lucky you!

IMHO, absolutely--the rounds look great with your oval! & if you do go down the eternity band route, definitely make sure you have a sizing bar in the back for re-sizing--as you age, you will be able to wear your ring as your body changes over the years, and not have to buy another, larger sized ring.

I love the round eternity band with your ring. Everyone has a different style, & my choices tend to more of a clean & classic look/nothing faddish...hence my 1st choice is your eternity band option. I also think an additional band with your ER & eternity would look great on your finger, since you have such a nice, slender finger.

You could easily support a wider band & I don't mind at all the width of the top pic along the Cartier band also!

Which look are you leaning towards?

@sarahb oh thank you!! This helps greatly

I’m leaning towards either 3.5mm or 3.7mm. 3.7mm seems large but (from what I have read everyone says go bigger so you don’t regret).

Do you have opinions over the scalloped version vs. the regular? My consultant says both are equal in terms of secure

Hi @chicago123, sorry I got sidetracked there for a day or two.

Yes, I do prefer the wider sized band on your hand, it fits better--IMHO--proportionately to your hand than the thinner sized band.

As for the setting type, I prefer something very safe & secure for the diamonds, as I would fear one good knock on the side of the diamond is all it would need to damage the stone, or worst case, loosing it out of the setting.

I'd think the setting type would have to be determined by the stone size, & how your ER ring is set, & whether or not you want your wedding/eternity ring to be flush with your ER or if you're ok with a gap. You don't want your ER & eternity chewing each other up via daily wear & tear.

What kind of eternity/wedding band are you thinking about? Larger singular stones? Or smaller stones as in a pave type band? Or a channel type setting? I have all 3, & find the channel most secure & safe, basket 2nd best & pave least secure. (But wear all 3 all the time!)

@chicago123, I bet you'd get more replies if you asked the MOD to move this thread to Rocky Talky. Hit the Report Concern button & ask them to move it, they would be happy to do so!

@sarahb also just seeing your post above

The setting info helps. I am looking at basket / u-prong. I think I will go with whatever setting sits lower. Im nervous about u-prong as I know its more delicate.

And still deciding on size. My ER is size 6 and the consultant is saying 6.25 for eternity but Im wondering if I should even try 6.5 to be safe? But that could be too large

I think at this point I have read every thread and tried to learn as much as I can hah!
