Hi,

After spending some time doing research and learning about diamonds I have been able to select two diamonds certified by GIA that fit my budget. They both perform really well in the Holloway Cut Adviser and the AGA/NAJA Cut Class grader but I would like and option of a professional who can tell me a little bit more about proportions and if there is a difference in performance... or which one should it look better. I am concerned about the inclusions because I am buying online. It should be eye clean as it is an VS2 but because it is smaller that 1ct there is no plot display to see where they are located. I enclosed the clarity characteristics each one mentions on the report. Which one should I go for?

OPTION 1

0.90ct, H, VS2, Ideal Cut, Round
Measurements: 6.14 x 6.19 x 3.84 mm
Table %:55%
Depth %:62.4%

Crown Angle °:34.5
Pavillon Angle °:40.8
Crown Height %:15.5
Pavilion Depth %:43

Polish:Excellent
Symmetry:Excellent
Girdle:Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet:None
Fluorescence:None

Clarity Characteristics: Crystal, Cloud and Feather

OPTION 2

0.91ct, H, VS2, Ideal Cut, Round
Measurements: 6.19 x 6.24 x 3.81 mm
Table %:58%
Depth %:61.2%

Crown Angle °:34
Pavillon Angle °:40.8
Crown Height %:14
Pavilion Depth %:43

Polish:Excellent
Symmetry:Excellent
Girdle:Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet:None
Fluorescence:None

Clarity Characteristics: Crystal and Feather

I would appreciate some help.

Thanks in advanced.

If you are buying online who are you buying from? Can they have a gemologist look at it for you and see if it is eye-clean to your standards? Most of the online vendors can, and I've even heard of Blue Nile being able to look at them as well.

The one with the smaller table and higher crown height will likely have more fire, which some people like.

Who graded them as "ideal"?

I am buying from Blue Nile and GIA graded them as Ideal.

Do you think this diamonds are a good selection? I am new learning about diamonds and I am not a professional. I just learnt reading on internet, so I would like to hear an opinion of someone who understand about diamonds. Thanks!

Both diamonds have potential. The problem with BN is that they don't provide magnified images of the diamonds or idealscope images. Several other vendors here do. If you are going to spend thousands of dollars, don't you want to be certain you are choosing the best stone? You just cannot tell from numbers alone.

On the contrary, BN uses GCAL grading reports that guarantees their grading, and they do direct assessment imaging of the diamonds light performance through both optical brilliance analysis and optical symmetry analysis which is a variant of both the ASET, idealscope, and diamxray imaging. It does not offer magnified images like JA does. For BN, GCAL grading is only available for their signature ideal cut diamonds. James Allen does idealscope for their diamonds as well as Good Old Gold does the diamxray, aset images for their diamonds regardless of cut grade.
