Hi everyone,

I'm looking to propose in the next couple of months and wanted to get started on the ring shopping process. I've been looking for stones and the setting for a couple of weeks but feel like im not getting anywhere in terms of the diamond. She wants a square cushion cut. I found a setting I want. Its a halo with a split shank. I'm looking at a diamond around the 1.5 carat range. I think I want to find something around this range:

Color: d-g
Clarity: VVS2- IF
Carat ~1.5

From what I've been reading online I'm curious if this is a good range to stay for a cushion cut.

If found this diamond below. What does everyone thing of this one. My girlfriend has a 4.5 ring size do you think this ring will be a decent size for her hand. I'm looking at a halo setting.

Carat weight: 1.52
Cut: V. Good
Color: G
Clarity: VVS2

Depth %: 69.8
Table %: 62
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Thick to Very Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.55 x 6.51 x 4.55

You could drop your clarity to VS1, even a VS2. VVS is overkill and too you could gain a little more size if you do that. A cushion will face up smaller than a round or princess. Remember to look at measurements and not CT weight.
In my inexperienced eyes, there seems to be light leakage under the table. you see all that white? you don't want that. I however am NO pro. i can tell you that some of the regulars here can sure find some amazing stones though.

thank you for your reply! I appreciate the help.

I will broaden my search to include VS1 and VS2.

Where should I start my search? I've been talking to a family friend but wondering if I should buy the diamond online. Any help from the forums is much much appreciated.

thank you!

What does everyone think of these. If I'm assuming correctly. the ratio shows that we're close to square vs rectangle.

Hoping experts will chime in. I am certainly not an expert however looks as though there is a lot of light leakage (white) - hopefully someone with knowledge will give you some input. Good luck. :wavey:

You should expand your clarity requirements to at LEAST allow for VS1. VS1 will be completely eyeclean. All of them.

What do you think of this one?

Also - what does it mean when a GIA report says "Natural"

I'd give it an A-.

As for a natural, it's an inclusion type. Here is a Wiki article that sums those up for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_clarity

Thanks Gypsy! I'm still on the fence about this diamond. Such a tough choice finding the best one! Do you have any recommendations for cushion cut diamonds I should look at?

I've adjusted my focus a little based on what I've been reading, but any help would be super appreciated for a clueless buyer.

Color: f-g
Clarity: VS1- VVS1
Carat 1.5-1.7
Ratio under 1.07

budget of around 12k

You can request asets but you only get 3. Wait for others input before requesting asets.

thanks for these as well!

I found one more, and thinking about deciding between this and the one I posted earlier.. What do you all think of this?

I wish there was a way to PM you! But this particular diamond doesn't have a laser inscription and is dated 2014. Should I be worried about that?

No. But you should ask if the stone is a trade in, and if so, have it checked against the lab report for condition.
