Hi everyone,
I ran across the stunning three stone of @LLJsmom and have been chatting with hubby about having one made. I am finishing up my masters program this summer, was selected department chair, and am turning 45 this year. Three big things to celebrate so why not a three stone! Hubby gave the go ahead so here I am! :kiss2: I am early stages currently. I'm not 100% sure on the proportions yet. I think I want it a wee bit smaller than the 1.1/2.5/1.1 but I'm not sure how much. I am thinking a 1/2.25/1 but want to play around with the proportions a bit. I'm a size 5 1/4. I do want bigger side stones but just not certain. I have a general idea for the setting but nothing set yet. I figured I would start with the center stone.

Can you all help me find a 2.25 around the 1k mark? I found a few on ritani but I don't know if they are up to snuff. My engagement ring is a 2.11 L SI1 BGD H&A cushion. While I love the warmth of my current stone, I would like something higher in color. I was hoping for F/G but could go H or I I think. For clarity I am comfortable with SI1 or VS2 depending on where/what the inclusions are in the diamond. I appreciate any and all guidance you all can provide. Please let me know if I am missing anything.

Hi. Congratulations on all your milestones!
Have you gone and tried on any 3 stone rings? I think you could make a better decision on size if you try on a few different ones. That way, you could also look at settings IRL.
I wouldn't discount the 2.50 center stone. As a 2.25 is not noticeably different from your 2.11 you might regret now taking advantage of the larger stone. But at least with trying some on, you'll have an idea of what you like as well as finger coverage.
I'm not a stone expert, (so much to learn), so I'll leave that to someone else. But I will follow this thread and give my non-expert opinion on what happens! Good luck!

Hi @momofive! I haven't tried on just yet but am concerned that the 2.5 combined with larger side stones would be wider than my finger would allow. I looked today but the jewelry store I went to didn't have any larger three stones. I think I will need to venture to San Francisco to try a few styles. Is a 2.5 even feasible in my limited budget?

Anyone have thoughts on these two?

I don't love the proportions on those.

How about one of these?

Hi @Kim N! Thank you for checking it out. I just ordered the 2.53 :) I'll let you all know how it goes! In the mean time I will spend some time determining what size side stones I want and eventually need help finding a nice matched pair. I appreciate the help!

Ah. I see you went for the 2.5!! The ring I am waiting for will have a 3.3-3.4 center Emerald Cut with 2 0.5ct EC side stones. Round will be a bit difference. Here is an image of a 3.0 center EC with the same side stones on the consultant's hand and she has narrower fingers than mine. These are actual stones, not a rendering. She only had a 3.0 in the house at the time. They also did a rendering of my actual hand with what the ring would be like. Subject.png

I think as the side stones slope down from the center stone in most 3 stone rings, it does not take up as much horizontal real estate as you would think.

This diagram may help - the center is a different size, but the proportion percentages can be calculated easily enough.

Hi everyone. The stone arrived today. Thoughts? My cushion is a 2.11 L for reference. @Kim N how do you feel about it?

It looks beautiful! How is it performing in all your usual lighting environments?

It looks great! Sparkles a lot and is whiter than my L (of course ;-) )

My next step is to try on rings and find a ratio I prefer. I am thinking of sides from .8 to 1 I think.

Hi again! I’m ready to find matching side stones for my three stone. I would like 1 to 1.15 ct side stones each. I like the 1-2-1 proportions but think 1.25 will be too big for the width of my finger. I have no idea how to search for matching side stones that will go with my 2.53 from Ritani. @Kim N and @DejaWiz have some time to help me out? Thank you!
