I wonder if the 6.85 vs. 7 mm had issues other than mm diameter. If one were brighter and better-cut, it would throw off more light around it (what I think of as my flashlight effect) and thus seem larger to the eye. From everything I''ve read, the human eye really shouldn''t be capable of distinguishing differences of less than .2 mm in size. Seriously, get out a ruler with cm marks on it. Take the 1 mm distance on that ruler (1 cm = 10 mm). Try to divide that 1 mm into 10 little lines. The width of the first pen mark should be around .5 mm (i.e., you can''t even draw a line as small as .1 mm). Try to imagine that the width of your pen line contains five little marks, and see if you could tell the difference in width of .15 mm. I really think it''s unlikely that you could discern a visible difference between the diameter of those diamonds. It may have been cut (the halo of light effect) or psychological.

That is a good point...especially when you put it in terms of comparing it on a ruler. I can''t quite remember the cut grades/dimensions of the stones, but I know my BF did think the 6.85 was the "prettier" diamond. But he said he did notice a difference in size. The saleswoman had also pulled a 6.79 mm stone. Lined up next to each other the 6.79 did look significantly smaller than the other 2. There was less noticeable difference b/t 6.85 and 7, but I still feel like I could tell a difference.

I finalized the order w/ WF and they are shipping their stone to us next week. I''m still debating whether I should have the JA 1.32 ct stone also sent to the appraiser so we can do side by side comparison the caveat being that we''d be out $95 ($65 appraisal fee; $30 return shipping) if we decided not to buy the JA diamond. But at least it might help lay to rest all the "what if''s" swirling in the head!
