A little background on the lady:
Age:26 yrs
Fingers: Petite
Personality: Bubbly, outgoing, elegant
Occupation: Fashion Merchandising

I want to surprise her with a very unique ring -- she's not one to show-off but I want to give her a ring that she will be absolutely adored by.

I'm stuck with these 3, setting only -- I have a 1.5 ct diamond selected already

1) Is the band too much/fancy? The stone is a 5ct in the pic so don't use that as comparison

2) I feel like this is the one I can't go wrong with:

3) I really like how different and unique this looks due to the gold surrounding -- but would it be better for a more mature woman or do you think a girl of her age would fall in love with this? I'm leaning towards this one but I'm not sure if she'll be embarassed by it due to the gold accent. Also, will it affect how brilliant the diamond is due to the yellowish golf color?

4) Similar to above but with pink diamonds surrounding halo:

5) Double halo -- too much going on?

the 2nd one gets my vote! the first one is nice too but it would be hard to find a wedding band that would go with it.

I didn't even think of having to accomodate a wedding band!

I didn't see the last 2 choices when I posted first.

I think the yellow diamond halo would best complement a warmer diamond or a yellow diamond. I would stick with all white diamonds for the safest choice. If she likes pink you could add some pink diamonds in the wedding band or get her a pink diamond anniversary band down the road?

with a 1.5 ct, I think a double halo is WAY too much. I would definitely stick with single halo with white diamonds.

LM's pink halo would be my vote. Beautiful!

This gets my vote too!

I would have to go with the Leon Mege. But I absolutely love and admire the quality of his work. If you chose one of his setting you would truly have an heirloom piece, and it could be handed down to future daughters and grand daughters which you can't help but smile when you think about. I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices though, they are all beautiful! Congrats! She's a lucky girl with a very blingy finger in her future! :appl:

Any experts know if the pink diamonds will affect the brilliance, scintilation, etc of the diamond? It's a G Color VS2, H&A excellent cut. I don't want to compromise the diamond look itself.

I'm really, really, really pulling for the pink halo -- will it look more like a decorative ring than an engagement ring? I've never seen one in person before which is why i like it!

nope!

I think it will be beautiful but it is not a typical style for an engagement ring. Does your GF like pink? As I mentioned earlier it might be 'safer' to have an all white diamond engagement ring and a pink anniversary band to stack with. but either choice would be beautiful!

I like the pink halo or #2 (30 year old female here, if that helps.)

I'd set the stone in a simple stock solitaire to propose and then get her input on the setting if you are wanting the proposal to be a complete surprise. Halo's are very popular right now but not every girl wants one and I wouldn't do a pink halo unless you are 100% sure she wants that too. She's the one that will be wearing the ring so really her opinion is the only one that should really matter :))

All are beautiful rings, but...I like option 2 because it is a classic and will always be elegant, but LOVE the pink halo because it is SO DIFFERENT! If she is fashion forward this will definitely not be your average ring...

if you could casually ask her what she thinks of color diamonds that may help your decision...or have a best friend ask her casually what she thinks of them ;-)

GOOD LUCK and please post pictures once you decide and she has it on her hand!!!!

I like the double halo by Leon. But depending on the size of your center I think it might be too much. And 1.5 carats with a double halo is pushing it. I wouldn't do that design with anything larger than 1.0 carats.

What do you think of this ring? http://timelessluxury.net/cr-021.htm I think this would look fabulous with a 1.5 carat center.

Frankie has a ring by Steven with a gorgeous round halo. I have an asscher with a halo by him. her favorite color is pink!

I think her center is a 2 carat stone. So your 1.5 will look amazing.

My favorite color is pink and my fiance kept trying to get me either go with pink gold or pink sidestones, and I just couldn't convince him that beneath all the pink I was really just a traditional girl and really wanted something traditional with just a hint of unique. You know your girl better than any of us and I suspect that if you feel that she would adore the pink halo then your gut is probably right (and no it won't affect the performance of the center stone in any way, in fact it will probably compliment it very nicely) but I would caution you to consider what your g/f personality really is, is she modernist, traditionalist, romantic, couture/fashion forward, simplistic? I think that once you've narrowed down her personality you will have a better idea of what type of setting she would prefer. It's a big decision huh? ;))

I really like the Steven Kirsch too, he does amazing pave work! So if you go with a halo I really like that style, but I also liked the idea of having the diamond set in a traditional 4 or 6 prong tiffany type setting and then choosing a forever setting together after the propasal. I think alot of girls love that their b/fs took the initiative to select and purchase the center stone themselves (it takes the pressure of the budget off from us) but really appreciate having some type of input into what style the ring will be. So that may be a nice option and then you don't have to stress over the setting part of the decision. It would be a fun experience to do that part together!

I absoloutely agree with SLG! The first one will be very hard to find a matching band and will be hard to have a ring sit flush with with engagement ring. But the second one is just beautiful. She would love that and it will be easy to wear.

LM's pink halo would be my vote.

I think it is great that you appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of a pink diamond halo ring. Not many men I know would or would even notice! I think if you are considering doing a pink diamond halo, you may want to consider using rose gold for the halo or even for the whole ring. Rose gold and pink diamonds together are beautiful. Rose gold and champagne diamonds are also stunning and so elegant.

I have attached a photo of Giselle's to die for ring to show you how elegant and different it can be. I can't find the original thread but I'm sure someone here can. It isn't for everyone, but if you feel in your heart that she would appreciate it...Do IT (and come back w/ pics when you do)!!

And I think that even if Leon is difficult there is no disputing that his work is amazing.

Something to keep in mind if you go with a halo is if you want a flush fit (picture attached) or prefer something that is not. Many guys forget to think what the matching band will look like next to her ring? If it is flush fit the band should fit snugly up to the engagement ring, if not it will have a gap! Many times when a ring has a gap, and she wants a flush fit you will need to custom design a band that will contour around the engagement ring to be flush. Which in turn doesn't look as appealing as a straight band if she decides to wear by it's self. Hope that helps, and good luck finding the perfect setting!!!

I totally agree with mrssalvo...let your girlfriend decide what she likes.
