I'd give the JA cushion a B/B+ bc of all the contrast it has. The second is only a GIA report and we can't tell anything about fancy cuts without pics or and/or video and/or light return images. Could you give us your budget and desired specs so we could take a look around for you?

Thank you for your response. I'm looking for a colorless, VS2 minimum, brilliant cushion cut over 2 carats for $18,000 or below. Really just looking for the best performing diamond and could be flexible on budget if need be. Thanks again for your response!

Hi rig,

Ac is right, definitely pass on the first cushion and as she says, the report won't tell us anything unfortunately. We're very happy to look for you, I take it looking at the cushion you first posted that you prefer a more modern cushion to a chunkier faceted, more vintage look? Let us know, meanwhile, we'll see what's out there.

This one has potential.

Also, contact Jon at www.augustvintageinc.com to see what he can find, he's fantastic with cushions and he might be able to find you just what you want!

Thanks so much for your response. I'm definitely passing on the first one. Yes, that is correct. I'm looking for a modern brilliant cushion cut, and not completely sure how to ascertain the great performing ones from the not so good performing ones. Thanks I will take a look at the James Allen F VS2 that you suggested.

Any thoughts on the quality of this one? Do people generally use the enchanted diamond cut score like the AGS performance scores for round brilliants?

Absolutely no relation I know of between Enchanted Diamonds cut grading and the coveted AGS0 grade for fancy or round shapes. I've no idea what ED base their cut score on but I wouldn't set any store by it personally as terms such as ' Master Cut', 'Ideal Cut' ' Premium Cut' and so on can be used rather loosely in the industry and are not a reliable way to determine performance or beauty.

The ED has potential but it's hard to tell much from the info given, worth asking them for an ASET image if they can provide one.

Really just looking for the best performing diamond

It is a great priority and indeed for this shape you will want to consult with a specialist and/or the fine prosumers here.

Wink

You're most welcome, let us know if you need any more help.:wavey:

Thanks - this is incredibly helpful. I've requested an ASET for the ones listed. I will follow up with results from those.

Additional question for everyone. Is there a meaningful difference between a cushion brilliant and cushion brilliant modified in terms of performance (assuming all else equal). Or are there just too many factors to say that a brilliant is superior to a brilliant modified?

In general, a cushion modified brilliant is often the facet pattern seen in a crushed ice type cushion. There are certainly exceptions, however a cushion brilliant will more likely result in the crisp faceting that you see and desire in a well performing stone.

I would be concerned about the light leakage in the areas in the very center and in the outer highlighted area (between the outer circle and square)

Got it thanks. So would you throw this one out or do further work around it.
