Hi all,

I got the ideal scope images on a few diamonds I'm looking at and wanted to get your picks for the top three IS images below. If you don't think any of them are very good, please let me know so I can keep looking around.

IS.png

None look perfect to my eyes but I would choose D based on those images. I would welcome others' input, though.

Do you have grading report numbers, all the angles etc., clarity plots, ASET images...?

Are you tied to this vendor?

Let us know your budget / colour / clarity / carat size preferences/requirements and we can find you options.

Yeah, these are all from JA. The parameters I set were triple ex, 54-57% table, 61-63% depth. I think all the crown angles were between 35 and 36 and pavilion angles were either exactly 40.6 or 40.8. Each scored under 2 on HCA. I am pretty tied to JA because I want to go with this setting (https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-edge-lotus-basket-engagement-ring-item-41585).

My budget for the diamond is $6000 max for a 0.95-1.0 ct. I think at least SI1 for clarity and an I for color (though I can be convinced to go to an SI2 or J if it seems good).

Can I find one that is perfect/excellent within my budget or will I have to go down in carat size? I'm guessing the best of the ones above are only in the 'very good' category at best.

Do check out the other PS-recommended vendors - such as Whiteflash, High Performance Diamonds, Brian Gavin - as they might either have that ring on their site or be able to get it in.

It is my understanding that the companies often buy-in rings from mass-producers of them, so it may be a style that is readily available elsewhere.

I have to do some work today :( lol, but I can try to look at 'SuperIdeal' options later!

They all "pass" the IS, but all but D show pavilion variation and leakage. But, you have a lot of excellent options within your budget.

If you can't find a setting you like at WF or another vendor, you can always buy the setting from JA and have them mail it to WF for the setting. I love the basket on that setting (the part holding the diamond). But, the double pave may eat a wedding band unless its carefully selected. I'm also not a huge fan of settings where there is a very narrow point of contact between the head and the shank. You ideally want 3 points from multiple directions. Maybe a low cathedral version.

Here are a few from JA. See if they will give you IS images. Put on hold ASAP if you are interested.

Whiteflash - At your budget and specs, this is to the best option to me. TOTL cut and performance with no compromises on your goals. Put on hold ASAP if you are interested.

If you want to see about gaining a bit of size, ask WF to hold this one and then compare to the I above. See if this J happens to be a "high" I.

Thanks for the thorough response!

Of those diamonds I posted, how fair of a deal would you say they are?

I think the best part about the setting from JA is the basket as well but don't actually love the double pave. I asked them if they could do a custom with a plain band but they said they couldn't.

It's funny you choose those three from JA. The first link you gave is actually diamond C. The second is one I asked about but they don't have an IS and the third I'm waiting on them to send me the IS.

That diamond from WF looks really good! I went to JA and it seems like they want the diamond in hand to do some of their settings so I might have to send it to them I'll also have to get the setting for full price ($212 more) and pay a $100 setting fee so that makes me a little hesitant as it would put me just enough over that I wouldn't feel as comfortable.

Actually, as I get closer to pulling the trigger I'm considering decreasing what I spend on the diamond (is this common)? I initially started out by being at $6000 all in but kept going up. Can you guys tell me what the best diamond for up to $5000 that was either A: 1.0 CT eye clean diamond with any other specs or B: the best quality as long as it was between 0.8 and 0.95.

I would not personally choose any of the ones you posted, other than maybe D. So, eliminate my first suggestion. IS trumps a video on performance.

I can have a look tonight for options at 5k. So, you are ok down to J? Maybe another PS member will beat me to it =)2

Well, this one is an outlier, AGS000 with complimentary crown/pavilion angles but not our usual standard range. The grade making inclusion is a crystal
but I cant find it for the life of me:eek-2:. I would ask JA about it.

Another AGS000...would have to ask if its eye-clean...not sure if its mind clean though. Report is from 2017...I would ask about that

You could check on this one. It is a D with strong Blue...have to ask about that and how eye-clean it is.

I know you want the best your money can buy but if you are going to be super picky about H&A, idealscope the above may not cut it for you.

BTW...I bought a setting at JA for an outside stone and got the 25% off. Where does it say you cant have the 25% OFF? Just curious.

Edit...WF does have a beautiful K colored stone since you are using yellow gold and the side will be covered up by much of the basket (pretty basket BTW). WF has a really nice upgrade policy
(full value with no conditions) so if in the future you want to go bigger or whiter you dont lose any
money on stone. This stone plus full price on the JA setting, plus $100 setting fee keeps you under
$6k.

Thanks, RS! I would be okay with going down to J since the basket will cover most of the sides and I'm and okay with AGS.

Thank you for these suggestions! That first one from JA looks pretty good. I'll look into that one. The last one from WF is also great and you're right about the basket.

 I think this must be an error on JA's part and highly doubt that's the correct stone. Just looking at the report, the ASET shows so much contrast (granted its computer generated) that doesn't seen in line with the video, there are multiple crystals under the table that we'd definitely be able to see in an SI2 and the video shows 2 feathers between 3-4 o'clock that aren't on the report. So weird!! I wonder which diamond you'd get if you ordered it!!

I had noticed the same things earlier when I looked. My guess is you'd get the worst of the two, lol. Well that would be my luck anyhow.

The first one is quite nice but I don't quite like the cathedral look. Should I be worried that the one I'm looking at will break?
