Hi everyone! I am new to this scene. I did a fair amount of reading on the subject, but the more I "educate" myself, the more confused I become. I hope to get some feedback and help regarding my first ever diamond purchase. I know looking at the specs for OECs mean not much, and I should see diamonds in person but that is not possible. I found two old cuts that I like. Based on the photos and videos I think these are the two I should really consider as a great buy, but I am not sure about light performance, leakage. I want the diamond to be alive, not dull. I'd like to get your honest opinion regarding these two rocks below.

OEC recommendations are welcomed
My budget just for the diamond is 10-12k. Planning on setting it in Emilya halo

I just checked out your stones on the JbyG site. I'm also researching OECs so I've been on her site a lot lately. You prob already know but Grace doesn't do ASETs because old cut stones throw off light differently. I wish she did.

I like the spread of the larger stone but I like the faceting of the smaller stone better. Nut then I thought the larger stone sparkled more in the video. Maybe ask Erica if the indented naturals on the larger stone can be physically felt underneath? The mapping looks like they're large but maybe they're internal and not touching the surface?

FYI, I personally don't spend a lot of time outside with my diamonds so I asked Grace if she would send me video of indoor lighting with the stone I'm interested in. She said yes. Maybe that will give you further insight as to fire and brilliance in "normal" lighting.

What are your thoughts about the 1.53ct, I, VS1 on the JByG site? Maybe the price is negotiable if you like it? Erica mentioned in the blurb that it sparkles like crazy. The facets are a little wonky though.

I've owned a lot of old cuts, no.1 no contest out of the two above, great spread for price and its what we call a fat arrowed tranny - so best of both worlds the performance like a well but RB (without needing an ASET) but chunky checkerboardy facets like an old cut.

Unless you don't like to see arrows sometimes (they will turn off and on in some lighting) inside and under lights it will just be a fireball..... in a stone - some people don't then I'd go for a well cut OEC with more of a fat petal flower pattern and a nice high crown instead. Some people also don't like big tables and shallow stones.

You need to figure out what you want so a deeper stone and a cut pattern more like an OEC or a general performance more like a RB with more chunky old looking sparkle pattern.

Out of my stones the fat arrowed tranny does better overall fire and sparkle wise especially indoors under office and shop type lighting situations. The OECs I have are less flashy under office and shop type lighting (still plenty of fire and sparkle but not the same as the tranny) and do better in normal daylight inside and out if that makes sense. I love the chunky cubby nature of OECs and big high crowns.... Overall I love different things about both but don't have a preference for one over the other.

And without meaning to offend the above poster old cuts need to be evaluated with your eyes. If you want an ASET go for an new Old cut instead. ASETS have their place but are not the be all and end all with these types of stones. I think even some of the long time posters here would agree you can have two OECs with similar performing ASET images on paper yet one in real life will be a dog and the other will be totally amazing.

That 1.91 K from Erica looks gorgeous! If I were in the market to buy, I would seriously consider that stone.

Thanks everyone for your input, especially arkieb1. Now you got me thinking again. Arkieb1, could you take a look at this video, the diamond on the right, is that what you call "well cut OEC with more of a fat petal flower pattern and a nice high crown"
https://youtu.be/XaD9l0ynDaY?t=203 I really like how it presents

I contacted also VC about their ERD. Take a look here https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/xje85q...... I know there is no video to show its performance, but maybe you could do your best educated guess. Is this a worthy rock, 10k?. I also attached a photo of the diamond in an office lighting, next to a window ( I requested a video as well). I really like the idea of getting the setting and diamond from one place but this is not a must option.

Love the VA oec. Pretty, bright and good price If its $10k. The weight is 1.5 ct. But I think The face up size is smaller than an mrb, for comparison.
