Hi all,

I’m down to a few diamonds for an engagement and am struggling to finalize my decision. All of the following have HCA 0-1.4, depth 60.8-61.9, table 55-57, and well-paired crown/pavilion angles. They are priced well and appear great. So now I’m trying to figure out what to prioritize. Here are my options:

1) ~1.3D VS1 ($11.4k)
2) ~1.6G VS2 ($12k)
3) ~1.5H IF ($12.2k)

The smallest diamond here is just above 7mm and the largest just under 7.5mm, so the size difference is noticeable. I will be setting the diamond in rose gold, but I know that in the future my SO may want to switch to a platinum/white gold setting. I could prioritize size (1.6ct G), color/price (1.3ct D, which would be great if she wanted to change the setting someday), or clarity/cut (1.5H IF - not the best color but great clarity and by far the best cut out of all these diamonds).

Thanks for your help

Sure. Here they are. There are 2 in the D ~1.3ct category.

I was all for number two until I saw the clarity characteristics- I don’t like how they’re so focused in one area, and would want to see actual pictures of the diamond. The IF H only seems like an odd combination because you’re paying such a premium for clarity only to go with an average (and totally respectable!) color. The charts are a great start, however, when you’re trying to distinguish between tenth of an angle, I think actual pictures of the diamond are more helpful.

Honestly, the inclusions in the G are not very noticeable, even at 10x

If they aren’t noticeable, it could be a good choice- do you have any actual pictures, videos, maybe an ASET? If it’s eye clean, scores well on the HCA, and pictures show a lively stone, it sounds like a good contender.

The VS2 G looks clean to me that would be my pick

Agreed. The G is my favorite. The H/IF doesnt make sense IMHO because paying for IF means getting less size/color for clarity you cant see.

Just an alternative suggestion for consideration:

Whiteflash offers A Cut Above (ACA) AGS graded diamonds with excellent return and upgrade policies.
ACA’s are super-ideal cut diamonds, making them superior performers to any GIA XXX diamond on the market. AGS graded stones eliminate the need for the HCA tool; AGS is very strict on cut grades.
ACA’s will not only perform on a higher level, but they will hide color better due to their cut.
Their cut affords them great spread, which means you don’t compromise size for brilliance.
You cannot go wrong with a super-ideal cut ACA from Whiteflash.

1.57 G VS2 would be my choice!
In my opinion, I would not choose to pay more for highest color or clarity because having to do so will be sacrificing on the size
