The stone is a GIA Certified, 1.39 carat Radiant
Color: H
Clarity: VVS2
Cut: Unknown (not listed on GIA cert because I've learned that there are no cut requirements set forth for fancy cuts by GIA)
Depth: 73.0%
Table: 74.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmentry: Good
Fluorescence: Medium Blue
Comments: Surface graining is not shown.
Keys to Symbols: Pinpoint (only one on diagram of stone on the GIA report)

What/how much should a stone like this sell for? Again, is this a fantastic stone, good stone/middle of the road or something not worth looking into further?

Thanks for your help!!

Can you get ASET / IS images? That's really the only way to evaluate light performance.

Have you seen it in person? Why such high clarity?

I don't know what ASET or IS images are......I have this stone in my engagement ring now, but am thinking of swapping it out because the clarity is so high and the other C's, like cut, are not as good. I say this because there is a large, black bowtie visible in direct sunlight and sometimes in other light depending on time of day; mostly, though,it sparkles and is beautiful, but the sunlight is where you really want to see your diamond sparkle. I hate NOT wanting to look at it when it should be sparkling.....my eye is drawn to the bowtie and then immediately way from my stone :( Even my FI commented on it. He said, "When I got this home and took it out in the sunlight, I thought I had been "taken" for what I paid for it".

I'm not really sure what you mean, you only get bowties in marquis/ovals/pears and I can't think what would look like a bowtie in a radiant. Do you mean that is has dark areas that don't reflect any light? Can you post photos of your diamond/ring? Then maybe we can get to the bottom of this.

Also is retuning the ring/diamond an option?

Exchanging/returning is an option, yes. Let me figure out how to upload/post pictures here. This is my first post....

Hopefully I was able to do this right....this is the best I can do for now on pictures. Thanks for your help!

Here is another one. Sorry the quality is so bad.....I'm no genious with my iPhone camera (although some people are!).

The bowtie would bother me too.

That bowtie would drive me up the wall.

It DOES drive me nuts! :)

Is the answer to get a more square radiant one of similar carat weight? I know this does not happen in rounds, but I really do not like round stones at all. They are pretty, but SOOOO common! I love the rectangular shape (it just suits my personality so much better!) and also that it wasn't a popular princess cut (a lot of people have those, too). I like cushions, but that, too, is a fancy shape so the bowtie effect will probably be an issue there as well. I just feel like I don't know what my options are. I am completely uneducated on diamonds.

So, questions:
If I purchase another radiant, do I just make sure that the cut is very good or excellent?

How will I know WHAT the cut is if GIA doesn't assign cut grades? Do I go by depth and table %?

What are the %'s that constitute an excellent/Ideal/very good cut?

What would be some perameters for cut/clarity/color for a radiant of a 1.4-1.6?

In all of this, I just don't want my fiance to get ripped off and we just want a quality stone in my budget. I think for what he paid for this stone and it's clarity, I can swap out and compromise down a few (From VVS2 to a VS1 or VS2) and possibly get a slightly larger stone.

Thank you!

Also, what kind of girdle thickness should I be looking for?

No, you need to see it or see a picture first!

If you get a larger stone, the setting will need to be redone, but I guess you can return the whole thing.

I will be seeing the stones in person. I'm just not sure how to tell other than sparkle.

What kind of girdle should I look for in a radiant?

Girdle really isn't important. Avoid very thin is the key. I don't like very thick either.

You need an ASET and you need to learn how to use it if you want to shop in person. Also, you know what a bow tie looks like now, so avoid those-- even if they show up bright red (or especially so).

Wow! I am going in less than a week.....I don't know if I'll have it by then even if I order now. It's good to know that there is a tool out there to use, though.

I'm going to the diamond district to the place where FI got my ring. We have to go to get my wedding band and we are going to check out other stones to swap out.

Thanks for the links, Gypsy! As far as the ASET to order, which one? The tri-colored one or the pink and black?
