My girlfriend and her friend went to Robbins Brothers, just to take a look, and I received the ultra-secret full report back from her friend. As far as the setting is concerned, we have decided upon this one:

Now that I've finally decided upon the setting, it's time to find the diamond. Apparently, she liked anything between 1 and 1.5. Initially I had planned to go between 1 and 1.2, since her ring size is a 4.5. So, I'm trying to find something around the 1.15-1.25 area, but if I find a great deal on a 1.5 or a 1.10, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Here are the ranges I'm looking for:

Princess Cut
Carats: 1.15 - 1.25
Clarity: VVS2-VS2
Color: E-G
Cut: AGS0
Budget: Under $8000

I have looked at some of the diamonds at Whiteflash, and they seem to be a decent option. However, when looking at the light reports for a couple diamonds, it seems some of them don't look as good as others (since they have a few black areas, white, etc.). Since all the diamonds I'm looking at are AGS0, will we really notice a difference between one that have superb light reports, and others that may have a few dark areas? If I can save $1000 to get something that I won't be able to notice, I'd be okay with it.

Thanks!

Here are a few to consider. They are pretty much all H color stones, so you''d have to decide if you/she are color sensitive enough to pick up on that drop . . . however a well cut stone should face up whiter from what I have learned on PS.

Remember:

You don't need to pay for a VVS2 diamond. If you can't tell the difference between that and a VS1, you should get the VS1 :)

Color is another thing; I have an icy white H RB that faces up beautifullly. I would definitely stick with anything above an H for a princess cut. They tend to show their color a little more than RB's, and since you want a bigger stone, you should pay for better color.

IF you're going with WF, I'd definitely get an AGS0 or A Cut Above. I went into their offices to look at a few diamonds, and had Brian put some AGS0's and his ACA's infront of me, blindly. I couldn't tell the difference between them, and the one I ended up picking based on pure observance, was an eyeclean SI2 (I was shocked) H AGS0. Good old Gold has great stones too.

I'm not sure what light report you're talking about, but if you're going with an AGS0 or WF's ACA's you should be getting a great stone! Also remember that ASET reports are favored when looking at princess cuts. Here's a link to show you what you should be looking for: http://www.ideal-scope.com/using_reference_chart_ASET.asp

Stick with AGS0 and stay away from EGL and GIA for princesses. You won't regret that.

Thank you for the suggestions. I would prefer to keep the color above G, preferably F. As far as the clarity is going, I decided to include VVS2 just in case somebody found one at a decent price. I''m betting I''ll be somewhere in the VS1-VS2 range, though. I''d prefer to stay away from SI.
