Hi all, I talked to Cartier today and have to give them my ring size but not in US size. My US size is 7.5. Is there a chart for this? If you had the option of a size that's slightly higher or lower than your US size what would you choose? Thanks.

Check the ArtofPlatinum site. I believe he has a chart of sizing for various countries.

Our wedding bands are from Cartier, and when we were buying them, I found that getting the size right was very tricky. My Cartier ring is size 53, but my American ring size is somewhere between 6 1/2 and 6 3/4. So according to that chart my ring should be between 54 and 55. However, my husband''s ring is size 64, and it measures about right in American sizes--American size 11.

If I were you, I would go to Cartier and try on their rings in person to make sure you get the right fit.

PS: Also, I would go for the bigger size myself, but it''s a personal thing. Do you prefer your rings snug or loose?

I agree, I got a ring from them and ended up going for a bigger one... I know you live in Hawaii, do you have any problems with swelling due to the heat?? Just a thought..

We bought my engagement ring and my husband''s wedding band from Cartier. In both cases, they brought in several rings for us to try on, which was a great help. I highly recommend trying them on in the store. Our bridal consultant told us that the rings should fit so that they do not slide off while washing hands. You should not be able to easily slide the ring over the knuckle. We found them to be very helpful and accommodating, and they offered to resize if needed (hand swelling in the summer, ring too loose in the winter). Good luck!

Imdanny,

I have several cartier rings and I must say sizes are different for almost every rings. For example, I have a trinity ring for RHR middle finger which I normally order from cartier size either 51 or 52, for this trinity I ordered a 51 which was a tad too big, I should have ordered 50. The point is you should go to a cartier boutique if you can and try them on.

Thanks for your comments. I definitely prefer loose.

That''s the thing- we have two Cartier boutiques but they''re on a different island, so I''d have to make a trip, which I don''t want to do.

Thanks for your comment. To answer your question, I actually live at a higher elevation where it''s cold. LOL, I know most people don''t expect me to say that but it''s true.

Thanks! The SA I called (please see my previous posts) told me that if I ordered the wrong size that I could only exchange it for one size up or down. I doubt that''s a policy. It seemed like a strange thing to say. I asked her if they had sizers to send me (on the off chance) and of course no. I have the sizers from Eweddingbands. Maybe I could buy one for French sizes? But then they say companies'' rings don''t fit to sizers. I looked at Leon''s chart. The only thing I can think of at this point is to order the size corresponding to 7 1/2, but I wish I could try them on.

How annoying and unhelpful of them! Can you ask to speak to a manager and see if you can get them to let you try until you get a ring that actually fits? If they won''t let you, I would be tempted to make the purchase at a more accommodating shop instead.

It''s not just that the sizes are not American standard sizes--it''s also that different ring designs fit differently, depending on (for example) width or which finger it will go on.

Yes! I agree. I need to talk to her manager before doing business with them or go somewhere else. This SA is not going to be able to handle the situation if there is a problem if she is starting off telling me some 1/2 truth that has more to do with her convenience than my satisfaction.

Would you please explain the French sizing system? What are the intervals (i.e. is 56 1/2 the next larger size after 55 1/4 or is this chart incomplete)?

.683 17.35 54.0 7 O 55 1/4 17 1/4 14 15 1/4
17.45 54.7 7 1/4 O 1/2
.699 17.75 55.3 7 1/2 P 56 1/2 17 3/4 15 16 1/2
17.97 55.9 7 3/4 P 1/2
.716 18.19 56.6 8 Q 57 3/4 18 16 17 3/4

Thanks.

I''m not sure, but I think the chart is incomplete.

They''re not making this easy for me! I could walk into a Tiffany & Co store and be done with it. I guess one small purchase doesn''t mean a lot to Cartier but still.

Sometimes we use the French system in Bulgaria too. I think the intervals mean that there aren't exact equivalents to each US size in the French system i.e. There is a size 7 (55 1/4) and 7 1/2 (56 1/2) but there isn't 7 1/4 or 7 3/4, hence-the gaps in the chart. But the difference between sizes is really insignificant. I wear a US 6 (52 3/4) but I buy most of my rings in a size 6 1/2 (54) and they're a bit loose but there's certainly no danger of them falling off my hand.

If your US size is 7.5, you should be ok with a 56 1/2.

BTW, the actual ring sizing system we use in Bulgaria corresponds to the Circ. MM column of this chart (Circumference in millimetres). That's as exact as it gets (if you feel like measuring your rings, of course

Thanks! I think I''ll go with that. I hope it''s right enough because US 8 falls off my finger and US 7 is much to tight - ack!

I guess I shouldn''t let this put me off buying the Cartier ring and not the Tiffany ring. Thanks, everyone!

Update:

I found a SA I want to work with.

She sent me this chart, however, and it doesn''t match these other charts.

"Here is the chart we use.

French US
44 3
45 3 1/2
46 4
47 4
48 4 1/2
49 4 3/4
50 5
51 5 1/2
52 6
53 6 1/2
54 7
55 7 1/2
56 7 3/4
57 8
58 8 1/2
59 8 1/2
60 9
61 9 1/2
62 9 3/4
63 10
64 10 3/4
65 11
66 11 1/2
67 11 3/4
68 12
69 12 1/2"

Huh? She said I can send the ring back as many times as I need to, but what do you think of her chart? Should I use hers or Leon''s for my first try to get it right?

I''m an eweddingbands 7 1/2. As much as I try, I don''t have a clue what Cartier size I should try first.

I would use her chart, since that''s the one Cartier is using, so you''ll both be on the same page at least.

I would try 56 first, because 55 and 56 are both between 7 and 8, and I prefer my rings a little loose rather than a little tight.

Good news that you can keep trying until you get the size right! Good luck.
