Need advice

I''ve been searching for loose diamonds on the internet. I thought I had finally found THE one until I pulled up the certificate and the certificate number and the date was whited out. I called the vendor and asked for the number and the date and she called me back with the info. The certificate is dated December 11, 2006, it''s an AGS. I''m a little uncomfortable about this diamond now and feel like something isn''t ringing true here. How do I know for sure that the certificate on their website actually belongs to that diamond now, especially with the number and date covered up? Would you trust it? Also, can you tell me if this diamond is a good one. I really appreciate any info. Thanks.

I wouldn''t worry about James Allen. Not all vendors want to advertise the cert# to keep others from copying them and using them falsely.

Agreed. James Allen is well known and respected here. If you''re worried about it then make sure to take it to an appraiser within the return period. They can verify if it''s the same stone usually.

I wouldn''t worry about James Allen, they seem to have a pretty good rep around here. I would however ask if the diamond is eye-clean since it is an SI1 and also know that with a loupe and the plot of inclusions in front of you, most people can probably determine if the diamond is the same as the cert. If you are worried about doing this yourself, hire an appraiser to do it for you but with an SI1, you should be able to look at it yourself, I would guess.

Ditto, JA is a very reputable vendor. I purchased my e-ring stone from him and I was very satisfied with the service, the stone, and everything checked out just fine at the appraiser when I went to have it checked out.


Do you have any images of this stone? It''s probably fine, but the crown angle is a little high. However, it''s a H&A stone...so it''s probably a beautiful diamond.

Another question, when the certificate states in the notes that pinpoints or clouds are not shown, is that a bad thing? Should you avoid those stones?

The image looks great, you might want to reserve it in case lukers steal it.

"not shown" basically means too small to make a difference...no worries.
