Need advice

Both diamonds look really nice, they have similar measurements and proportions. However, I would pick up the bigger one, 1.684ct.

I'd go the other way @EvaEvans! The WF diamond is a super-ideal with TOTL performance. The angles on the James Allen (JA) stone are good, and the IS ok (idealscope, all red light image), but not as good as the Whiteflash (WF) option. To me, the WF diamond is clearly a better choice for performance. The JA stone gets you some size, but all else being equal, I like the IS (red reflector image; more red, less white=good) of #4 below. But, I'm usually happy to trade a bit of size for performance.

If you are open to lower color to G (still considered colorless to most) and VS1, here are some options.

High Performance Diamonds (HPD) and Whiteflash are super-ideal and TOTL for cut and performance. I personally slightly prefer HPD, but there are just as many who love WF.

Can you provide more specific details on what about the JA diamond is not as good as WF?

Thanks

Those two diamonds aren't great to compare considering one costs $5k more than the other! I'd want a Whiteflash superideal cut, but not the one you posted. I'd hands down rather have this one at 7.76x7.81mm than the JA stone at 7.6-7.64mm:

VS1 clarity is going to look just the same as VVS2 to the eye, and even at VS1 the inclusions are difficult to locate with a 10x loupe.

I would definitely go for an ACA (Super Ideal branded stone). The 1.71 that DS pointed out is gorgeous! If you need to be in a lower price point
I would drop down to a G in a ACA.
