Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate people's comments on my engagement ring. We had it made at a reputable, expensive jeweler and requested a replica of the tiffany setting. They had to make it by hand because I wanted the wedding band to sit flush with it. The issues I have with it are:
1. 4 out of the 6 prongs are not touching the diamond;
2. Each prong differs in size, shape and thickness;
3. There are horizontal dents on the top of the prongs;
4. The prongs are a rectangular shape...nothing like the real tiffany setting;
5. It looks like the diamond is set crooked.
All of these issues can be seen with a naked eye.
I know that a handmade ring is never going to be perfect but I feel like I have a right to be upset about the craftmanship of this ring! What does everyone think? In this picture the right prong isn't touching the diamond and the left one is thicker at the top.

yes, take it back.

Thanks for your comment! I''m trying to upload 4 more photos - how do you do that without staring a band new post? :)

Would not be happy about 1,2,3, or 5. #4 - well, no reputable jeweller will make an exact copy of a designer setting, so prong shape could be how yours chose to distinguish it.

Thanks!
In this next pic the right prong isn''t touching and I''ve turned the ring around so it''s not the same prong as above

This one shows the horizontal dents

This one shows both left and right prongs not touching

Ditto yssie.

Definitely take it back.

And here''s a hand shot - it''s really obvious that the claws are different shapes, thickness, length etc when looking down at my ring.

wow, I would be equally as disappointed and upset. What kind of quality standards do they have if they gave you the ring like that (and are saying there aren''t any problems)? If they don''t fix what you point out, and make it to your standard, then I would ask for a refund and go elsewhere.

Did they ever show you a wax model before you got the final ring?

So sorry. The prongs look really chunky from the top down view. I would take it back.

yes-i would take it back. FYI-if you can just get your money back BGD has a lovely Tiffany replica setting, as does Excel diamonds.

no we didn''t get a wax model...they said that they didn''t use a wax model as it was handmade. However, the other day when we were looking at wedding bands for my fiance (at a different jeweler!), I asked the sales assistant if it was possible to made a ring without a wax model and she said that''s it''s impossible, you have to make a wax model first...so it''s also odd that my jeweler told me they didn''t use a wax model...

Wax model = cast.
No wax model = handmade in the traditional sense.

this is not correct - a ring can be hand fabricated without a wax model.
As Jogia has mentioned, using a wax means it is cast (and than hand finished).

Either way, it is no excuse for the shoddy workmanship.
Take it back to be made again.
