I just got an engagement ring with EDL certified and here''re the info on the certificate:
princess cut
weight: 1.19
Measurements: 5.74x5.64x4.27 mm
proportions: very good
depth: 75.7%
table diameter: 80%
Crown height: 7%
pavilion depth: 63%
girdle thickness: medium polished
culet size: pointed
finish grade: very good
purity: vvs1
color: F (1+)
flourescence: none

it costs 7k including the setting. The stone seems a little bit yellow, my concern is would it be possible that the grading is inaccurate? and I tried to search for EDL but could not find anything about this lab. Does anybody know if this is a legit grading laboratory? Should I go back to exchange for a GIA certified one? Thank you for your advice/comment, I appreciate all your help.

Hi Surfergirl,

Welcome to Pricescope!

On an initial pass, the numbers don't look good. I haven't seen any depth and table numbers that high. I think (someone correct me i'm wrong), is this a steep deep? Also the width seems really narrow for a diamond of that size...

A good way to see if a diamond is worth considering, is to run those numbers through the HCA tool found here

https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp

As far as UDL grading lab, I haven't heard of that lab, so i'm guessing it may be suspect. In particular, since you said that you could see some yellow on a F color Diamond. From what I have read here, some of those 2nd tier grading houses (EGL, IGI, etc) can vary from 2 - 4 grades lower in color and 1 - 3 grades lower in clarity.

If you can, try to find a AGS or GIA cut stone...

Good luck!

Hi Darthkim,

The poster is asking about a princess-cut, not a round. The HCA only works for rounds, and the depth of this stone is normal, while the table is very large, but very common in run-of-the-mill princess-cuts.

All in all, cut-wise, it is definitely not a nice princess-cut.

Your main worry is more important, though. I have never heard about EDL. Where is this located?

oh wow, I totally missed that.
Thanks for the correction, Paul
Surfergirl, ignore my post! Sorry!

You would do well to heed Paul''s advice. Do you mean EG L?

Hi Lorelei,

Yes, it''s EDL certified, not EGL, that was why I''m concern because I couldn''t find anything that relate to EDL, and there''s no address or phone# on the certificate. I did realize buying diamond can be complicated. Thanks!

Hi SG!

Ok, well in some instances EGL are considered by some to be softer on grading than GIA for example, do you know which branch of EGL graded the diamond, such as USA, Israel, Antwerp, Europe etc? That would be useful to know. An F colour will generally be colourless, so it shouldn't look in any way warm or yellow even in a fancy cut, so that could be of concern. Is it possible you could return the diamond for a GIA or AGS0 cut grade?

There are a lot of threads on EGL if you use the search tool above right, meanwhile this thread has good info on how the grading labs rank.

Ok, now I am confuse... Is it EGL or EDL??? Either one of you must have type something wrong... I am leaning towards Lorelei running low on caffine again... :P

EGL!!! And I am now properly wired having had one of those Monster java drinks!

Well...EDL is something...comes up some 60 times (with dups) in the search here, and you can see it documented here.

Not real popular, maybe, but I think it''s not non-existent.

Just another psuedo lab trying to fool people with a similar acronym most likely. The sad thing is, attempting to make people think you are EGL isn''t exactly striving for the stars.
