Hey Guys,

Just booked a 0.51 ct loose diamond for US$2,800. Its an Ideal cut diamond. I am totally a newbie to these rocks and was hoping any kind soul could give some advice. I've seen the ASET and Ideal scope for this rock, very minor leakage and the hearts and arrows are in approx good proportions (I will upload scope pics here once i've got my hands on them). However, I am not convinced of the price though the Jeweller said it was the best price in market he could offer.

Any advice on this is appreciated!
Thanks Much!

Is this a Super Ideal branded stone like an ACA by Whiteflash? It is a well cut stone but if its not a super ideal then you have overpaid by some.
THese are Super Branded Ideal cut stones, H&A, AGS000

You could go down in color/clarity some to get a slightly larger stone...not sure what your priorities are.

I was told this is a Super Ideal Cut diamond. I've seen it in the scopes and it looks promising. But then again, I'm still new at this. I'll upload the pics soon. The measurements does not state the cut, polish, symmetry as ideals. So is this considered a triple excellent cut diamond instead?

If this was really a Super ideal cut. What do reckon the price could be?

Thanks

Ideal is used by AGS as their top grade...so AGS000 is Ideal light return, Ideal symmetry and Ideal polish.

Your stone is GIA graded and Excellent is their top grade. GIA does not grade light return but yours is graded Excellent Cut, Excellent symmetry and
Excellent polish which is great. GIA Excellent cut is very broad and can include some stones that are well, shall we say not such a great cut. However,
your stone has all the right numbers. I wish you had an Idealscope, Aset and H&A images so we could check all those things. You usually get these images
with Branded Super Ideal cuts so that you can prove it is a super ideal cut.

On line your stone would be around $2300 to $2400 if it was a Branded Super Ideal.

I have finally gotten the scope images of the ASET, Ideal, H&A and the GIA certs + HCA stats.
Any thoughts or say guys? Worth the price of US$ 2800? I've seen more affordable ones in WF though but without the real scope images.

I have finally obtained the scope images now. However, how could i tell if this is a branded super ideal when all i know it seems and looks almost perfect in the scopes?

It passes all the tests with flying colors.
I like the proportion set.
Its within a few hundred of internet pricing based on the posts above which isn't that bad for a local b&m.
We don't know where your located that may be a great price for a b&m in your area.
Taxes have to taken into account also if your in a vat country.

Is that your jeweler's logo in the corner? It's branded if someone brands it. A Cut Above just means someone at Whiteflash has checked it out and thinks the stone is good enough to be called out. Buying an ACA is just paying someone trusted to pick the stone.

It looks like it could be super-ideal to me. For example, the dark Vs between the hearts and the chevrons are all uniform and symmetric. I'd say buy it--what you might save over the net is offset in the hassle cost of working long distance.

OP, you don't happen to be based in Singapore do you? Because the logo there gets me thinking that it's from JannPaul diamonds. If so, it isn't a branded diamond per se (in my books) but it is more like what Good Old Gold have with their Ascendancy range of H&A diamonds.

It's a beautiful looking stone based on the images you've posted!

It gets 2 thumbs up from me. It looks to be a very nice stone!

Super Branded Ideal usually means that a stone has to meet a strict set of criteria/standards defined by the vendor. Some are stricter than others.
A good vendor with Branded Stones needs to supply Aset images, Idealscope images, upclose images, and H&A images to be able to prove that the stone
is worthy. You have all that info and it all looks good. This stone should be a winner.

I've seen more affordable ones in WF though but without the real scope images.
Not sure what you mean by "real scope images"?

I really like it based on the images and proportions posted!

I have a feeling the OP was looking at the virtual inventory listings on WF.

I meant the virtual images of the scopes in WF for some diamonds GIA registered.
And thanks for the comments! I was doubtful at first but now I am confident.

You are sharp! yes it is from JP. Maybe you could elaborate more between a branded diamond and a self-procliamed brand diamond? Agree the stone meets expectations but does the specs meets the price correctly?

For me, the price that you've been quoted by JPD is fair given that you are paying Singaporean GST on the stone and you will likely have all the typical services that a jeweller would offer to you re lifetime cleaning, etc. If you were to buy from a vendor like Whiteflash, when you factor in taxes and import duties that you'd pay before the stone was released to you, it works out to be similar in price.

JPD also is a consumer education focused vendor (as seen by their YouTube videos). The fact that they are doing what they are doing in Singapore (i.e. emphasising cut first) rather than blindly following a typical Asian jeweller's view on diamond beauty being dictated by colour and clarity (like what I've heard described in Chow Tai Fook and Luk Fook stores) is a very good thing.

Some brands are sold by multiple jewelers; some jewelers have a brand that only they sell. Some brands are cut to order for the jeweler; some brands are just stones the jeweler picked out and thought were nice enough. Some cutters have their own brands, and some cutters cut one or more brands for one or more vendors.

From what I can tell on their website they pick out the best standard round H&A stones from the general pool and sell them. Solasfera and Brelia are branded cuts which are all cut by the same company but are sold by multiple jewelers.

This is all really high quality stuff. If you want a standard round cut there are many ways to get one of the highest quality. Getting one that was cut to order by a high end vendor pretty much guarantees what you will get. But so does getting one that was selected by a vendor with high standards. Plenty of cheap vendors like Blue Nile have branded lines that have pretty lose standards.
