I''m posting here hoping to get some help from others who have already gone through their diamond purchase. I feel like my head is going to explode deciding on where to purchase my diamond. On one hand, I have my local jeweler telling me not to buy in NYC due to the number of conflict diamonds and scams, yet I am able to find my dream ring for an amazing deal in the diamond district (at ERD). My jeweler keeps saying it''s too risky but what he can offer me is a lesser quality stone for the same price tag. Do I travel to NY and look for myself or do I cut my losses and go with what I know is a reputable jewelry store/company. I feel like I''m being tugged in two different directions.

Go with ERD. They have a great reputation around here, and it sounds like your local guy is just trying to get your business, and badmouthing someone else is never the way to go about doing that. Do you have a problem with buying online?

your local jeweler sounds like he''s trying to not lose the business. Go to ERD..their rep is great! I wouldn''t want a lesser stone for the amt of $ that ERD could give you your dream stone

do a search for ERD on here, they have a great rep.

walk away from that guy bad mouthing them and don''t go back!

Ditto what the others have said; ignore your local jeweler and get the best diamond you can for your money. If your jeweler is willing to compete with ERD on quality and price (and without badmouthing other businesses), then I''d be willing to work with him. But right now it sounds like he''s using pressure to get your business and not the strength of his product/service.

Yup. not liking the pressure tactics of your local jewler. ERD has a stellar reputation. I would not hesitate to buy from them. If you local jewler cannot match the price and quality, then too bad for him.

Ditto on walking away from your local jeweler. Obviously, they just want your business. I''ve met with Mark from ERD in person before and he is great to work with and very patient! Like others have said, he has a great reputation. Do you live close to NY and could visit? If so, then go for it! If not, then I truly believe you should have no worries working with ERD sight unseen.

OP,

I cannot help but respond to this ridiculous blanket dismissal of the entire N.Y.C. Diamond District by your local jeweler.

" I have my local jeweler telling me not to buy in NYC due to the number of conflict diamonds and scams"

How disingenuous of him to spew such drivel and especially when he no doubt regularly sources diamonds for his clients from dealers and wholesalers in N.Y.C.
These are the kinds of people who are a blight on their collective industries. Instead of promoting themselves and the quality of their products according to their own merits, they denigrate the competition and the quality of their products.

ERD has an excellent and well deserved reputation; they deserve your business.

Capitalism is such a great thing. It has brought about endless possibilities when it comes to finding the right place. My only advice is to just take your time and go with the place that makes you feel the most comfortable. Everyone I have talked to in the short time I have been on this site have been more than helpful. Ask questions, do your research, and when you feel comfortable, pull the trigger.

Your jeweller should be able to try to earn your business without denigrating others. ERD have an excellent reputation and you will be in safe hands with them.

I would strongly suggest you go with ERD, they have such an excellent reputation as everyone mentioned. Also, such amazing rings!

Samar--what exactly are you looking to purchase? If it is a round stone I would consider buying directly from Excel (diamond district as well I believe) or Whiteflash or BDG. ERD may be a good alternative when buying fancy cut stones. I bought my stones from Whiteflash, James Allen and others online after much research online, in books and with diamond vendors both in and out of the diamond district.

your local jeweller doesn''t sound very reputable, honestly... reputable jewellers don''t badmouth other jewellers to play up their own lesser goods

Go with ERD, or if you''re looking for a round or princess the internet is your playground
