I''ve been lurking for the past two weeks and still trying to absorb as much diamond education as I can. I just know the basics and maybe a little more than that. Which of these two would you chose? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Table:59.0%
Crown Angle: 33.5
Pavillion Angle: 41.2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Slightly Thick
Culet: Pointed
Flourescence: None

Diamond #2 for $10,400

AGS report
Carat weight: 1.50

Table: 60%

Both of these diamonds are RB. Am I missing anything? Which one is a better buy? Thanks!!

Welcome Lizzie Bean!

Do you have the crown & pavilion angle details for #2?

Unfortunately, I don''t.

Okay ... Without that info or at least the crown/pavilion percentages, providing an opinion on #2 is difficult. I can say that the E/SI1 combo is nice providing that that stone is eye-clean or has no visible inclusions.

With regards to #1, it appears as though you should be able to find a better diamond in your price range.
I ran the numbers through the Holloway Cut Advisor Click here for link and it came back scoring 2.9 or Very Good.
Specifically with regards to 4 factors: Light return, Fire, Scintillation & Spread or Diameter for weight - this diamond rates as Very Good for all factors.

It is suggested that any score under 2 is ideal, therefore, this stone is a little outside of that range.

Do you have any other options for your diamond purchase? Are you still looking or do you want to select from either of the 2 diamonds you posted?

For comparison sakes, I found this Expert Selection 1.54 ct E/SI1 diamond at Whiteflash.com ... Click Here

This diamond scores 1.8 on the HCA, which is Excellent.
The factors rate as follows:
Light Return & Fire - Excellent,
Scintillation & Spread/diameter for weight - Very Good

Thank you so much for your input. I just started diamond searching and I figured I go to my Mom''s trusted jeweler since there are too many jewelers to chose from in NYC. So...my search continues...

No problem! Good luck on your search ... Have fun with it!

$8363 at GOG

- it has an EGL report, but Jonathan has the equipment to confirm color and can certainly confirm clarity for you - I would not hesitate to buy an EGL from him (or Wink or WF, etc - as long as it is someone I trust to verify)

Oh, I was typing as you were mentioning you are in NY - Good Old Gold is in Long Island - last time I was in NYC I almost took the rail out to visit as it looks like it is a very short jaunt from the station..

The table size on #2 is larger than what I would prefer (55-57 ish), I would probably keep looking.

I told my bf about online vendors that he can check out, but he isn''t too keen about buying a diamond online. Good thing GOG is only 15 mins. away from where we live so we''ll definitely go there.

I can''t believe I''m saying this, but diamond searching is giving me a headache.

I certainly know where your bf is coming from. I previously thought that it was ridiculous to buy a diamond online. After all, you can''t even see it etc. This being said, given the numbers that were quoted, specs wise, I had little doubt it would be beautiful. I actually just took the leap of faith in December and bought one from Whiteflash for my mom and it is outstanding... Really beautiful and far superior to some of the stones I had seen at regular vendors. Apart from that, saving money on tax since it is an online purchase out of state, was a nice perk.

With regards to your headache ... Absolutely! When I was looking, I had to make a spreadsheet to keep all my desired specs and the stones I was considering in order. This helped to keep everything straight, however, it is such an emotional experience that I still had a headache. When I look back though now that everything is coming to an end and my ring has been completed, it was a lot of fun and worth every second of frustration to end up with something I will adore for the rest of my life!

Again, good luck. You''re lucky GOG is near you ... I would love to be able to go and check them out.

I think the table is a little large on the two you suggested. I definitely agree with others that you should check out GOG since they are near you. They have excellent service and beautiful diamonds! I like the last two stones that :) suggested, but I really don''t think the first one is going to be eye clean.
