Need advice on Round Diamond for custom ring

I am starting to look for a diamond for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I am going to incorporate my grandmothers 8 side stone diamonds into the setting, but I need help picking out a center stone.

Here is what I am looking for:

Budget : less than $7k

Carat : 1 or great

Cut: ACA Round or True Hearts have been looking at James Allen and White Flash

Color: Prefer G or greater but can do H

Clarity: SI1 or greater

Ring size will be 5 and a small petite lady

Again I will be using 8 sidestones in the band 4 on each side from my grandmothers ring.

Looking for the best quality and bang for the buck. I am looking to order in the next 2 weeks.

Can you tell a big difference in a 1.20 ct diamond and say a 1.05 ct?

What about color and clarity H SI versus G VS2? Can you seen a big difference in those?

Do you recommend White Flash or James Allen?

carat weighr does not automatically translate to face up diameter. Check the diameter difference of the individual stone and see if you can notice the difference in life.

Color difference, look at this video, might not be what you really see in real life because of the camera and your screen but at least you can compare the color side by side.

Clarity, if they are both eye-clean you will not see the difference, so make your eye-clean standard known to the vendor.

Check their respective policy and price and what settings each have to decide who you want to go with.

What about color and clarity H SI versus G VS2? Can you seen a big difference in those? The stone is either eyeclean by your definition, whatever that is, or it's not. If it's a clean SI there's no difference between that and a clean VS. Cleanliness in the SI grades needs to be evaluated on a stone by stone basis - best to have someone actually look at the stone for you and check. Most people can't see a colour difference between G and H. Most people can't see tint in an H face up. You may not be most people.

Do you recommend White Flash or James Allen? JA generally has slightly lower pricepoints, WF has better buyback/upgrade policies. Depends what's important to you.

They look good. I am debating on those and if there anymore suggestions that would be great as well.

I am not sure if I should go with 1 carat and then higher color and/or clarity or should I go with a little larger carat such as 1.1 or greater and a lower color/clarity.

I guess I am just asking for some more opinions.

Well - they're all cut fantastically well, so that's not a factor anymore.


Depends on whether you want VS2 or SI1, a little bit more size, a little less pain in the wallet...
