Hi everyone,

Looking at these two stones and need you help in deciding:

1. DVS1 1.7ct
Depth 61.8/table 54
Girdle thin to med
Crown angle 35/ Height 16%
Pavilion angle 40.6/Depth 42.5%
Star 55%
Lower Half 80%
GIA cut grade excellent

2. DVS2 1.8ct
Depth 60.6/table 58
Girdle thin to med
Crown angle 34.5/ Height 14.5%
Pavilion angle 40.8/Depth 43%
Star 55%
Lower Half 80%
GIA cut grade excellent

both should be quite nice. it''s hard to tell exactly how these would grade with ags because we only have the gia rounded numbers to go by.

#2 would b my pick because even on the extremes with the rounding its got great numbers where the first one the rounding could kick it into the so-so zone.

I came across a couple of stones and notice quite a bit of variation in prices between VS2 stones of almost the same sizes, even if they are all the ideal cut specs. Is this due to the type of inclusions and if its black? will black needles visible with 10x loupe in a DVS2 1.33 discount the price quite a bit even if its a ideal cut stone with nice perfect h&A pattern?

Who knows.
I think you are overdoing what can be done via the web without actually seeing the ice

sorry Garry, what I hope to understand was, will black inclusion in a stone affect the price of a stone? I know Flourescence does affect the colourless range negatively, so what about inclusions that are black found in VS2 clarity.

You are a racist?
You have gotton past finding a nice stone.
VS2 black is smaller than VS2 white
Now you want to know everything - we will have to kill you!

You should simply buy a diamond now and be assured that you accomplished everything you could online and be happy - ever after.

No more OCD

Get some pictures and have your vendor eyeball them.
Without an IS or other scope image there isnt much more we can tell you.
vs2 should be eyeclean is almost all cases.

Hi Garry and storm,

I have a DVS2 stone currently. After purchasing, i saw under 10x loupe a couple of black needles in the pavilion which can be seen slightly faced up. It''s a nice eye-clean stone but the balck inclusion bothers me. Garry, I dont quite understand your reply, u mention black VS2 is smaller than VS2 white? Please enlighten me on this.

Most times if you take a white inclusion of any grade - say VS2 - and if you could make it black - and send it back to the Lab Sunshine - it would then be graded as SI1.
So sometimes white VS2''s can be seen also.
In 5 years time your eyesight will drop off and it will not worry you any more

So Garry, are you saying that anything above VS2 is overkill? (I am trying to make myself feel okay that I just bought one, speaking of OCD!).

Oh now I see, What Garry meant was if there is a black inclusion in a VS2, it will be smaller than any white inclusion that made the same grade of VS2.....Sorry about my slow brain and thanks Garry for explaining to me. BTW, what is the meaning of OCD?

try a google search

(you will not like me any more if i tell you)

OCD......so this is the meaning.....I think my hubby will very much agree with you that I do have some traces of it. anyway, my problems are not solved yet Garry, I have to contend with whether to go upgrade my DVS2 1.33ct with black needles to the the 1.8ct DVS2 with white inclusions but at a much higher price per ct.

Sunshine, what about an E VS1?

Yes, one of my choice too but not my hubby''s. He prefer that I stick to a D colour as he likes it for its rarity. I am highly likely to consider the DVS2 1.8ct since Garry and Storm both thinks it''s a better stone. What about yourself? Are you happy and satisfied with your VS2?

My stone has not arrived yet. The setting is being made and I am hoping to have it next week. I''ll be glad to let you know. I am picky about clarity and won''t keep it if it doesn''t look very clean under a loupe.

That said, if one desires a very high color for the rarity factor, then I would think that would apply to clarity as well. I''d be inclined to go with VVS on a D or E stone, personally.... perhaps VS1 on an E-F-G, or VS2 on a G-H. But that is just my logical thinking (personal preference) and does not correspond with what I see others do on here! (Obviously I''d be looking at Ideal cut stones).
