I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but you''ve all been so helpful and I am hoping you can give me some advise.
I have a jeweler that I''ve worked with for about 5 years now. Bought a diamond eternity band from him during this time as well as other pieces. I am now trading in my ring for a new one, and he is giving me full value for the trade-in. I am also trading in a bracelet, which he did not originally sell me, and he is offering me what I think is a fair price (about 25% less than what I paid for it 7 years ago).
After the trade ins, I still owe a fair amount of money for the new ring. I just brought the bracelet to another jeweler just to see if I could sell it for more than the trade in, and while they weren''t interested in buying it from me, they offered me a higher trade in price than my jeweler (about $500 more). I am not going to trade it in with this jewler. I want to use my jewleler. I was just surprised to hear that I could get that much more for it.
I haven''t given my jewler the trade-ins yet.
Is it in poor taste for me to go back to my jeweler and ask for more of a trade-in amount based on the # the other jewler gave me? I''ve never traded in jewlery before so I am not sure if this is standard practice or not. I like my jewler and trust them and do not want to create any ill-will, but I don''t want to be foolish and not ask if this type of situation is fairly common.
It''s funny, I never have a problem negotiating things for other people, but here, for some reason I am having a problem. I am torn between trying to save a few hundred dollars vs. not creating an issue with a jewler that I hope to have a relationship with for years to come.
What would you do?.....I am leaning towards just leaving things be. Thanks for your advice...
