I've ordered the band for my girlfriends engagement ring and am now trying to decide between 2 center stones and am having a tough time deciding. The first stone is a .77 color D, SI2, excellent polish and symmetry, and has the 8 hearts and arrows. It is a beautiful stone and is certified from GLS. The second stone is $400 cheaper and is a Caro 74, which has 16 extra facets cut into it which really make it shine. It is a .73 color H, SI1, excellent symmetry and very good polish, and also displaces the hearts and arrows. Even though it is a color H with the extra cuts it shines just as bright as the first stone. They will be set in a halo and split shank mount that contains an additional .54 carats. The Caro74 comes with a full documentation from GIA, and the jeweler would be able to get the full write up on the GLS stone. I'm leaning towards the Caro74 because both of these are at the top of my budget and it would be nice to put the $400 saved towards the wedding band. My only concern is the extra facets cut into the stone, you can visually see the difference which isn't a big deal to me but I am new to all of this. I know the Leo diamond is also cut to give it more brilliance. I wasn't able to mind many reviews on the Caro74 online so I thought I'd try to luck here and get some advice from people much more familiar with diamonds than I am. Thanks and I appreciate any feedback.

Pass on the GLS stone. what is the GIA report # on the second stone? I have this feeling that it does not come with a GIA report.

I've seen the full GIA report with all the gradings and map of the 3 small flaws on that stone. All Caro 74 diamonds come with a nice binder that includes the full report and a couple extra copies. Also I made the mistake of calling the first stone a GLS and its a EGL grading. I couldn't find a way to edit it. This is all new to me and I've done so much research in past 2 weeks that I incorrectly said what lab graded that diamond. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Caro 74 with the GIA rating after doing more research on the EGL lab. sounds like it's fairly common for them to over rate color on stones compared to GIA. thanks for your reponse
