Need a setting for my wife's new 4.72 ct RB stone

Thanks for all of the good input.

Artdecolover71, I haven't found anyone near us that has any work that competes with things I see here on PS. Mostly, they carry "designer" rings that they retail for. While we have never had a custom setting, my impression is that I don't want a local retailer being a go between. We want to deal directly. Local jewelers say, "We can do anything. Show us what you want and we'll do it. No problem." That makes me nervous.

As to shipping a stone, we bought from an out of town dealer, and had the stone shipped in. That cost was in the price, but it surely wasn't UPS. It feels like the best route to getting something done is to travel with the stone to the designer, which seems like a hassle, but probably necessary.

Any chance you want to go crazy and use the 2ct stone as one side stone for a 3 stone ring, then buy a second 2ct for the other side? Most expensive option possible, of course, but - hey - we're here to help!

Seriously, though, that would be an almost 9ct 3 stone ring. Never seen one like that and it would be jaw dropping, eye-dazzling, and STUNNING!

Just a (really expensive!) thought.

Fun idea, but I suspect that if you add up the total widths of the stones, it would be too much. However, we will consider that idea. Thank you.

I also like a finely crafted solitaire or perhaps tapered baguettes.

The old stone would probably benefit from a recut if you want to use it as a sidestone.

Leon Mege is a master of that three stone with pear sidestones. He is located in New York - and New York is such a fun trip! I think he would make her ring very tasteful and elegant. I love the proportions he comes up with for the side stones. With a center stone that large and fine, I wouldn't want it embellished with a bunch of nonsense - if you know what I mean!

Gorgeous stone!!!!!

I like the pear side stones, but I might be a bit biased since that is what I have. :D I highly recommend Steven Kirsch in NY. He has done a number of PS rings and gets wonderful reviews (just search his name). He has done a number of 3 stone rings and I think he makes them very delicate, especially the v-prongs on the pears. You could either send the stone via Brinks or fly it out yourself, whatever you are comfortable with! I would ask Steven, I am sure he has worked with stones that size before from out of town clients.

I think your estimate on the pear size is probably close, but Steven will select the right pears (size and color) to match your specific stone. He will send you pictures before finalizing that though. He will do a fabulous job.

I am attaching a picture of a ring I tried on. Unfortunately, the picture is horrible!!! It is a 5 carat stone with close to 1 ct. pears on each side. In my opinion, the pears were a bit big for the stone, but it was my inspiration for my ring!!

Also, I tried on a 5 stone ring with a 4 ct center stone (all rounds). I believe there was a carat on each side (slightly graduated, probably .60 and .40 ct. ). It fell way over the sides of my finger, so I would just be concerned that it wouldn’t be comfortable for everyday wear. Unfortunately, I am having an issue and can’t get the picture to post.

Good luck, please post pictures of the final reset!!!!!

That is a magnificent diamond!!! Does she like Vintage Inspired pieces? I have a crush on this at the moment you can see it is much less plain looking than a normal 3 stone;

Otherwise maybe think about another more delicate solitaire type setting, I don't think the setting you currently have the stone in is showing it off to it's full potential either and that might be part of the problem. Something with pave in the band would be elegant.

Fly the stone to Steven Kirsch in NYC. You may as well have a fun weekend visit for the price that the shipping would be!

a solitaire sounds good to me.. :))

Sounds like an exciting trip to take! Maybe you can make a romantic endeavor...
Enjoy!
