Hey guys, I'll start by saying I'm new to this forum and stumbled across it last night. But I have been reading some threads and I know there's lots of experience on here and people willing to help.

The first thread I initially read was about Gemsny. I have been looking around for a nice untreated ruby to set in a gold men's ring and I thought I had found the perfect stone. I haven't fully committed to it yet thank God (after reading some critique on somebody eleses purchase I am thankful I haven't made the purchase already without getting some professional opinion) however I did put a deposit on it. I'll start by saying I'm fully aware of how inflated the appraisal could be that is included with it, UGL. But GIA is included. Please check the link below and give honest opinions on the stone/price. Thanks in advance!

That looks nice. I do really want a completely natural ruby though

I guess it doesn't have to be unheated as long as it's nice. I've been wary of purchasing a heated ruby after i almost bought a flux heated one.

CA0DEF17-D9E2-4F7A-B847-C7D7762295E4.jpeg I like it, but you do pay quite a “premium” for no heat. And it’s not as if it’s something anyone can see with the naked eye. For me, I’d accept “heat” for more “finger coverage”. Here is my pink sapphire of a similiar shape and carat weight to yours (though. mine is not quite as deep as yours so it’s a smidge bigger). This is it on my middle finger (size 8 lady finger) so you can get an idea of actual scale (rubies and sapphire are both corundum so size / weight is identical).

Yeah true, and I agree. A bit bigger would be nice. I'm glad I found this forum. I know I could get bigger for the price, but I was figuring it out with my jeweller and we decided on around a 8×6 because the ring itself is going to be bigger as it's a men's design. I don't want the ring to be too large

Thankyou for taking the time to show me these rubies. I really like the top ruby, however i don't like how it has been flux heated. The other 2 rubies don't seem to have any certifications. I am really new to all this, and reputable certifications are very important to me because of this. And I want the gem that I purchase to hold value as an investment piece, and I know that certain types of heat treatment lower the value of the stones

Wow that is really beautiful! But I would prefer a bit bigger. Can anyone offer some more insight into the depth of the stone I chose? I didn't realize it was an issue

You are wise to want a lab reort for any ruby you're buying. If a stone doesn't have one but looks appealing, you can inquire about getting a report as part of the sale.

The shallower the stone, the steeper the angles of the pavillion - if they're too steep the light might not achive total internal relection and leak out the sides, leading to a darker stone or windows.

okay this is good to know. most of the gems i have looked at that were in the carat range havent been much deeper then this. what would be a proper depth for a stone that was around 8x6 dimension?
